Hi. I have a 2 year old Scottish straight. She has had runny stool for a while. We have had her checked for giardia. It’s negative. I’ve changed out her cat food and given probiotics Nothing seems to help. Is there anything you all can recommend? My vet doesn’t seem to be much help.

Hi. I would suggest finding a feline only veterinarian to help you or even a referral to an internal medicine veterinarian. You don’t want to work with a veterinarian who isn’t going to help you when you need it.

Tests to run would be a fecal PCR test and even a GI blood panel, as well as Chem, cbc. I would start with the fecal PCR if this was my cat.

Hi and welcome to TCS. While it is a good idea to have the above noted tests done, it is also possible that your cat has an intolerance to something in her food, even if you have changed out her foods, if there are consistencies in the ingredients. It could be the protein, a filler, or even a gum. Food allergies are often hard to resolve, but it is just something to think about if the tests don't prove fruitful.

I would have the vet check for pancreatitis. You could also discuss IBD. Make sure when you change dry food that you do it slowly or it can cause tummy upset and diarrhea.
