Resting paw on me

Can anyone explain why my cat always sits beside me on a dining chair when I'm eating. He often pays down and keeps his paw resting on me leg while I'm eating.

Two reasons-
- Your cat is attached to you. It trusts you and feels safe around you
- In case you happen to drop a tasty morsel of chicken

graycie does that to me all the time to just be glad your cat isnt hooking you like how graycie does me that dew claw kills m every time

I wouldn't discourage your cat from laying next to you. But, I find feeding our cat Belle at the same time we eat to be a good way to strengthen or bond with her because the whole family is sharing a meal.

Of course, she eats quickly and always forgets to ask to be excused before running off to play!

I think it is a gentle and polite reminder that hey he is there and a morsel or two of something delicious would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks everyone! We always put his dinner out once we start eating but of course he finishes quickly and then sits with me while I eat haha I was wondering what was going in on his little mind

One of my cats used to do this, not at the table, but while I was sitting in the recliner. She has sat on my lap exactly once in 11+ years, but she likes to sit on the arm of the chair beside me, and used to rest a paw on me nearly the entire time. I figured it was her way of claiming me and showing some affection. She doesn’t really do it anymore but she does still sit beside me.
