Rescued Senior needs grooming

I rescued an 11-year old Ragdoll Janurary past. He's adjusted remarkably well except: he won't let me groom him. We do have a problem with petting aggression if he's touch anywhere on his body except the face and neck. He does need occasional grooming but he won't let me near him! He watches my other cats getting groomed but runs when I try him. He acts as if he's never been groomed.

I tried coaxing with his favorite treats...no go
I tried different combs and brushes...no go
I tried letting him sniff first...no go

Any suggestions or is it a lost cause at his age?

Try using a small hairbrush (for people) with medium stiff bristles. Make sure there are balls on the ends of the bristles, and make sure you only use that brush on him.  It could be a territorial thing - he might not like having the scent of another cat brushed onto him.
