I read Krista's thread, every message, after stumbling across it one day

I wouldn't have been a member here without it, and even though I knew how it was going to end (I saw some of the last page as I clicked the original thread), I cried when I got to it

You were dedicated, and it was beautiful for you to have shared that with us. Thank you for caring.

Despite the two rounds of dental surgery, the ruptured eardrum, the Horners (eye/head tilt), the liver/gallbladder numbers, the feeding tube...despite it all, the first thing she did when the techs brought her in for visits, she would make her way across the table, however unsteady, and right into my lap. I knew she would do this every visit. So I always told them to set her on the table so that I could see how she was moving on her way to my lap. 😻 And she would just sit there and purr. It was always so hard to give her back. But she needed her rest. I would soon change to once a day visits so she wouldn’t have to be mussed and fussed extra times a day.

New Year, New Office.

My home office has gone through many forms over the years. It even started as a bedroom. I guess in a strange way, I have Krista to thank for having a home office. (I moved the bed to the front room to be closer to the action—and the 3am cleanups—when her IBD was first presenting.) I know I couldn’t make it this long (and likely another six months to a year) hunched over a laptop on a couch or a bed.

I think Krista would have enjoyed the new desk. It’s cleaner for one thing. But it’s also motorized height adjustable. She’d have to use the tree next to the desk to get up there when it’s in standing height.

Before: A cluttered mess with a closet of junk outside the closet.

Oh look! She’s got her tail in carpet bombing pending position:

And while Krista won’t know the office in this form, she’s still a part of it. Sitting in her posthumous tree (it arrived an hour after she passed.) 🤦🏼‍♂️😿

Nice setup! Very neat and aspy ;):yess: It's really great having Krista's presence there, too. She needs to own that tree, because it is hers. That said, it must have been really hard having to receive it at that time. WOW.
My office actually used to be my bedroom for the short time I was here as a kid. Then some years later it became my dad's room because he snored like a freight train. It has this amazingly awful wallpaper that is so tough there was no way to get it off, so my ex painted over it, 3 coats. But it's still exposed in the closet. *Nightmares to order*

She never made her politics known. But she sure seemed interested in the first impeachment hearings.

We were in Santa Rosa for her shortest dentist visit ever. It was the follow up to her remaining mouth extraction. The dentist came in with his camera wanting to come away with some snaps of his handiwork. Krista had other ideas. The dentist had all the courage necessary to poke his finger into the mouth of a growling and hissing albeit toothless cat and yanked it around just enough to see lower gums, upper gums, “it all looks great! I’m sorry she wouldn’t allow photos but it healed up nicely. There’s no charge for this visit.” His total interaction with Krista was no more than a couple seconds. Just as she preferred. 😾 We came back to the hotel to watch the hearings. Or I went to breakfast and she watched the hearings. 😹

I don't doubt it a bit. It's riveting viewing. Krista is probably looking down upon us all and feeling very hopeful that Dr. Jill Biden has said she wants a CAT in the White House. That's as it should be. Without feline guidance and the unparalleled comfort and balance a cat brings to humans, there simply cannot be good governance. 😁

I hope to see pictures of the First Cat on the Resolute Desk. May s/he always have his/her filling station. 😻

Posted to Instagram because I don’t have to transcode videos to post there. Be sure to swipe all the way through today’s selections. I have so many from today. It was hard to narrow them down.

I don't have an account there :sniffle:
Can't you view it inline here?

I have a self-selected feed of cats, otters, and groundhogs. I can pass on most social media. But Instagram is where I go for smiles. So many dawwws! 😻

She’s improving! Just a couple more days until she comes home. These visits she just wants to sit in my lap and purr her head off. After a few minutes, I would call the front desk to retrieve her and return her to her recovery suite (cage.) That call would confuse the front desk. “Wait! Aren’t you already here?” “Yes. But I am pinned down under a love bug and need a tech to be the villain.” 🤦🏼‍♂️😻😹

I don’t have a Twitter and probably never will. I left FB in 2016–minus the pandemic, a year not too dissimilar to last. 🤬 I still have an account that I check in on once every few months. And a few looks around is all I need to remind myself why I left. It’s divisive and manipulative and that’s how the algorithms prefer it. 🤦🏼‍♂️ And Twitter seems even worse! Now instead of being fed news stories selected to engage and enrage on FB, I get ads for cat toys on Instagram. That’s a fair price I’ll pay every time. 😹😻

And to be perfectly honest, I started my Instagram account as a way to manage my hundreds (1000+?) pictures and videos of Krista. I was already preparing for when they’d be all I have and I wanted the precious and joyful memories preserved and curated without all the sad and bittersweet narrative that came with her Krista’s Care thread.

More fun with Siri Shortcuts. When I open Safari, the Shortcut picks a random number and if that number is even, Krista trills and if it’s odd, she trill meows. Seeing as I mostly use Safari only for TCS and Chrome/Google for everything else, I think this is a great app for this shortcut. Also Instagram. 😻

You're very wise, and very correct. Time is the problem for me. I use fb and twitter for work in cat advocacy. I have AdBlock so I don't have to see any ads. And I only deal with cat advocacy, so I don't get anything else. *It's the aspy way* I should do that on my phone, though.

After 9 days, she’s coming home!

First, I must ready the place for a wobbly Krista who may need supervision, activity restriction, or even crating.
