Reflective cat mats, do they work?

Has anyone tried those cat mats that are supposed to reflect back a cat's own heat, to keep them warmer? Do they really work?

I've had one of those for a few years. I'm not sure how to tell whether it really does what they say, but I know my cats love to sleep on it in winter. I keep it inside an open carrier to make a warm little "cave" for them. I used to have two, but I ruined one by putting it in the dryer - so if you get one, make sure you don't do that.

I have one. One of my cats occasionally uses it. I don't know if the mat really works, though. I've placed the mat over my lap to test and it does kind of keep my lap warmer but a blanket would do the same.
