Update the FDA has NOT linked grain-free pet foods to heart disease (dilated cardiomyopathy) in dogs or cats. However the FDA does think corn is a good source for dogs and cats. But, remember
The “Aflatoxins in Corn” publication from Iowa State University provides concerning information about the potential risk of corn in pet food stating: “Even one highly contaminated kernel in a 5-lb sample could result in more than 20 ppb aflatoxin (the maximum level of aflatoxin allowed in pet food is 20 ppb).”

Aflaxtoxins kill across species, too. They are suspect in deaths of many in ancient times, when grain stores were infected with them. As ever, thank you for sharing!

aflatoxins are behind three recalls for human food one in Denmark and one in France involving two different brands of popcorn and one for rice in Singapore. Biogan økologiske popcornmajs / Organic popcorn kernels - Denmark, and in France NATURALINE brand MAIS POP CORN. Singapore - Eu Yan Sang’s Brown Rice Si Shen powder

This is the first time I've seen a recall for Aflatoxins. I can only hope this means that more caution and care is being taken rather than things are getting worse.

Recalls and Alerts: March 28–29, 2023 – eFoodAlert

As ever, thanking you for your vigilance and sharing. Not sure about your last thought there, but hey, it's always good to look on the hopeful side as long as we can, right?

RE post @163 -- this is getting unexpected.

In a written response to a February 16, 2023, Warning Letter issued by the US Food and Drug Adminstration (FDA), Gary Tashjian, President of Arrow Reliance, Inc. (dba Darwin’s Natural Pet Products) has effectively told the federal agency to take a hike.

Sunday Supplement: Darwin’s Defies FDA (Op-Ed) – eFoodAlert
Doesn't surprise me at all. Too many people in this (and other) societies, drawing on the actions of their (former) leaders, think they're above the law. And they couldn't care less about anything but the bottom line.
Hopefully someone in a position to actually take effective action against this (and other!) crook will do so. Quickly.

Pennsylvania officials warn public about raw goat milk linked to Campylobacter outbreak - The dairy is operated by the Schaeffer family and is in Berks County. All sell-by dates of raw goat milk from Dove Song Dairy should be discarded.

Thanking you as ever for your vigilance and for sharing!
I do not love how all of these recalls are accompanied by requests to "discard." We spend $$$ on these products. No "discard." REFUND.

Ah, tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 you present an interesting idea. I wonder if being forced to refund the price of the tainted product would help companies find the money to hire enough people to prevent the contamination in the first place? Even then it would be a deductible before taxes expense as would refunding the price of the tainted product.

*Exactamente.* It's always been policy in my family to RETURN anything for a REFUND, not throw it out and pour the money down the toilet in that way. With the price of everything being so high, especially, but even if things were affordable, it's dishonest and plain bad business to tell people to suck it up. It's the MFR's fault. It needs to be on them.

tarasgirl06 tarasgirl06 I think I've found part of the problem the law as it stands now for human foods does not consider salmonella an adulterant. (see below. I was shocked.) Now, if that is the legal attitude for human food, what hope is there for our animals? Time to re-read Upton Sinclair's The Jungle and the more modern version Poisoned (see below) give copies to every library and person you can with a note that "THE PAST IS NOT THE PAST" in the front.
