Health officials are investigating possible cases of H5 bird flu after two cats died from consuming recalled raw milk, according to the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health.

The department issued a release on Thursday saying the two cats that died consumed milk from Raw Farm, LLC after the company voluntarily recalled all raw milk and cream products earlier this month.

After consuming the raw milk, the cats reportedly showed onset symptoms of lack of appetite, fever and neurologic signs.

I'd never buy raw milk unless I knew the farmer and could get milk, basically, right out of the cow.

When I was a kid, my father took me to a dairy farm to see how cows are milked and we got some fresh milk. A neighbor, at the time, used to buy milk from the same dairy. It was cool how the cream from the milk would collect on the paper lid.

I like fresh milk. If I drank milk, (lactose intolerance) I'd be inclined to get some, more often. I think the dairy is still there. It's been a while.

I would never buy fresh milk from a store. You never know how it's been handled or stored between the time its bottled and the time you buy it. If you buy right from the farmer, you can actually go to the dairy, look at the facilty and decide whether you want to buy things.

One thing I remember from going to the dairy as a kid. They used pressure washers to steam clean the entire place, top to bottom every day. You can't guarantee anything like that happening if you buy from the store.
