"Before cooking?"

... And there are quite a few studies and a lot of information on the nutrition content and bioavailability of various calcium sources.

Bioavailability has been studied for raw vs. cooked, but has anyone figured out if that and nutritional adequacy are the same regardless of where cats get their raw food from? That is what I'm curious about.

Well we already know that a raw diet has to be properly balanced between meat, organs, and bone (or calcium supplement). We also know that it's important to rotate the protein sources - and the parts of those protein sources because of the differing nutritional content of each. (The UC Davis study addresses that one in a back-handed fashion!).

But beef is beef and a chicken thigh is a chicken thigh whether it comes from the supermarket or a commercial frozen raw food.

We'll have to wait for the publication of the dissertation to know the details of what the home made raw diet was, which commercial raw was fed, and what canned food the control group ate.
