Does anyone have a kitty with health problems that gets nauseous randomly some days? It makes me feel so defeated. My kitty Morton has been doing great and eating well off cypro and ondansetron but today he seems a little off. He did go to the vet and get a lot of blood work and he was anemic before that maybe that's why.. just stresses me out! The ondansetron really works for him but I just long for the day he wont ever need it. I offered him pumpkin which he loves and he licked his lips and walked away. He hasnt eaten great today but he did eat breakfast. Thoughts?
Hes always had on and off diarrhea the vet thinks irritable bowels but I've successfully controlled that with proviable and also adding rx Clay when I see loose stools

I decided to give him a size 4 capsule of organic marshmallow root in hopes for anti nausea properties

OK, so I just have to ask, since I just reviewed your other thread about him. Is he or is he not still on the Pred? You mentioned that your holistic Vet was trying to get him off and detox him from it, yet on the same day your other Vet said he should continue on it low dose, so not sure what's happening, but I can't help but wonder if all the different things that may be happening medication (and even herbally) may be having different effects on different days for him. Even those mushrooms (assuming you ever rec'd them) could possibly be causing some tummy issues or some on and off again diarrhea :dunno:? Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Holistic medicine at all, but I wonder of sometimes there can be too many doctors in the mix. Do they all know what the other is doing?

As far as today, if he's been doing great until after breakfast, and doesn't seem in too much distress, I'd probably wait and see how he does the rest of today. He's been ill for quite some time, and I think maybe seeing him do well for awhile and then have a slight backslide has made you forget just how ill he has been. From what you've described today, it could just be a little blip. I'm sure hoping so as this little guy (and you) sure deserves a break.

Hi! He is on about 2mg of pred it seems its controlling his lymphnodes from swelling. His internal medicine specialist thinks its acting like a tylenol or something. The only herbal thing he is on is a 3 seeds combo pill he gets 1/4 a day. I have not added in 1/4 of a mushroom pill or the tea pill yet since I didnt want to do too much at once. He went on baytril the internal medicine specialist told me to use instead of the doxy he was on to try to rid him of a mycoplasma parasite as he said doxy is inappropriate for that. He has been off for several days now.

The pred I put him back on while he was on the doxy since he got a fever again and eating litter constantly more than before and the pred seemed to help and the doxy seemed to do nothing. I'm actually afraid to take him off pred again but I know it cant be good for him. He looks comfy sleeping hes not in an uncomfortable loaf at least.

Currently he is on 2mls of pet tinic per day for anemia. Proviable. 2mg of pred. Milk thistle (that hes been on for weeks). 3 seeds combo 1/4 pill. And that is it. He also gets a weekly b12 injection and I'll tell you whatever it is he is acting like a kitten. Just absolutely crazy playful. Just this morning he didnt eat as much as usual not waking me up several times to put his food bowl down and did not want to finish his favorite meat tube treat or want any pumpkin. It's hard not to over think because he is so fragile. He is over 9lbs though the heaviest hes been in his life!!

I'm really worried about his liver. 3 days on doxy and enzymes went to 800. It had to be that because it was the only different thing. Him being off it a couple weeks and the milk thistle I'm hoping it has improved and was just an antibiotic side effect

Are those meat stick things treats are his meals? I'm not familiar with them but just wondered. Could it be whatever he had for breakfast simply disagreed with him? Does he eat the same food all the time or do you switch it up? I know with one of mine, if I feed him certain foods, I can tell he's not feeling as well as he should be, so that's my clue never to feed that particular food again.

Good news that he doesn't appear uncomfortable at the moment. Hopefully by later tonight or definitely by morning he'll be waking you up for food again :crossfingers:

Do you take care of hairballs as well? Sometimes in between more complicated issues the simpler ones get forgotten. I believe it's shedding season in Washington too. I doubt this would be the cause of nausea but perhaps a contributing factor. My Hima has dental issues and when she oversalivates over that she overgrooms and that leads to (more) nausea. Especially if she goes more than couple hours without food.

Which Orijen? If it's "Cat & Kitten" then it has an average amount of phosphorus level but the other versions have higher % phosphorus level than the average. Not uncommon for grain-free - high meat amount foods. There doesn't have to be an issue about this but if the kidneys are sensitive and/or the cat doesn't drink enough water, it could be hard on the kidneys.

Also, my own cat eats Acana as her dry food and with grain-free, high meat amount kibbles like Acana or Orijen, they seem to become stale both in the box and on the plate earlier. Not "go bad" like expire but I'm pretty sure they start to smell and taste weird for them. I had to throw away a box this summer when Hima refused to eat (the box lasted the same as another did in the winter but I guess with the humidity it went bad earlier.) And now she doesn't eat the morning's kibble in the evening or she eats but only a few in a "If there is nothing else..." way.

I use pumpkin puree for him and he hasnt had a hairball since. Just today he didnt want it when he always loves pumpkin :/ he actually had his first hair ball in his life a few weeks ago. The easiest one too just hunch, cough twice and it shot out and he walked away! The crazy thing is he is 1.5 years old and medium hair and he only started shedding when he got back from his stay in the icu almost all of august..I believe him going off his immunosuppressive drugs and everything caused it.. he had a kitten coat up until he was put in there and I take him home and he is shedding like a normal cat. Kind of sucks but also..he is Cleaning himself! He never ever used to clean before going to the icu... he would let litter and everything stay stuck to him and he was always dirty and I'd have to bathe him so often and or baby wipe and comb him with waterless shampoo. He acts like a cat now. I guess I could just slowly syringe some pumpkin puree if he isnt eating on his own. Pumpkin is great for everything including hairballs.

I believe his kidneys are fine..I hope the food is okay he has eaten it all his life and it's the only dry food he will eat. I work at a vet clinic and have sampled almost every food out there even acana or the other orijen flavors and he sniffs and walks away :( or he will eat one or two pieces then I'll put it in his bowl and he turns away

The orijen food in the yellow bag it just says cat&kitten on it. It's high in calories which I like but I wish it was higher for him

He did eat what was left in his bowl from earlier it seems he has a pattern. He likes to eat before 11am and then a tiny bit in the afternoon and a meal late at night when I'm trying to go to bed and he will snack in the very early hours of the morning. Day and afternoon he doesnt want much and just naps

They can still have hairball issues without coughing up a hairball. I learned this when my Hima threw up yellow foamy bile. The internet and also her vet said the most likely reason when it happens rare is a hairball. She didn't cough hairball though. I have no idea how effective pumpkin is for hairballs to be honest so can't make a comment there.

That's the one that has average amount of phosphorus! Not higher. :yess:

Maybe that is my other cats issue..I wont go into detail on this thread but man.. some days its 6 times in a row. Proviable and milk thistle seem to help. But he grooms himself constantly AND Morton. But overall what do you guys recommend for a natural hairball remedy? I'd like no Petroleum bleh!

Morton actually ate half a can of wet food (27 calories) yay! He usually doesnt ever want it but husband said he ate almost all of it this morning and some dry food and he just ate his small bowl of food just a few minutes ago. And I'm glad the orijen cat and kitten is good...I dont know what I would do! He also ate his meat tube :) I'm thinking maybe the one flavor he isnt a fan of as there is a salmon one he usually doesnt want to finish. He loves almost every flavor and theres a bunch.

For hairballs, I give my guys dried egg yolks. I buy these (as a matter of fact, just received a new package today): EZ Egg Yolk This is more of a prevention than to get rid of one that is already built up and needs expelling though.

I also give them Vet's Best Hairball and Digestive Relief daily. If they have one that needs expelling, this seems to do the trick, but I like it because it has marshmallow root and Slippery Elm Bark as some of the ingredients. If I remember to give it daily, then they usually pass them in their stools, as it should be. If I get busy and forget, up comes a hairball :barfgreen:

So glad Morton is eating again.

Thanks so much for that info! I actually make my own supplements I have pill sizes 0 through 4 and also marshmallow root powder and slippery elm capsules I get the powder out of and have 2 come from it! That vets vest sounds awesome... my holistic vet said marshmallow root powder should work great for his nausea so I am going to try to even give one or two of those a day... she said ginger can help stimulate appetite.

I think I am going to bring it to a behavior forum but his eating is whack... he ate almost a whole bowl of food I put a little sprinkle at a time in front of him on his crunchy papers he likes to sit on. But putting the bowl by him he walks away. But he also goes to eat from the bowl randomly. Some weird behavior patterns

Its pretty much I'm home almost every day of the week all day and he usually is sleeping like my old cat does almost the whole day except wanting a nibble around 3 or 4 then going back to sleep and perks up when my husband gets home around 8pm and is active with my other kitty the rest of the night until the early hours and that's when his appetite is better. My husband said when I'm at work Saturdays and sundays he always stays upstairs the WHOLE time until I get home around 6pm then he comes down. He also goes a few steps down to meow at husband to put his food bowl down ha

I use GimCat Malt-Soft Paste Extra. It's very effective for Hima. They have some other pastes like GastroIntestinal Paste, MultiVitamin Paste, Urinary Paste etc. I have their MultiVitamin paste as well and they are also somewhat effective for hairballs.

Hee is a compilation of tips for getting cats to eat. Any Good Tips To Get Your Cats To Eat? Share Them Here! Maybe something in there will help. I remember reading in some thread (which, naturally I cannot find just n ow) that many people have good luck feeding "picky" cats on a paper plate. Don't know why this seems to help, but apparently it does!

It seems he has a pattern and it's frustrating. He eats almost all of his dry food for the day in the early morning and wont eat again until the hours of midnight to 7am but I give him treats all day and 2 inaba churu treats per day. He eats better when I'm not home and just my husband is...probably because he isnt filled up on treats......
