Good morning and Happy Whiskers Wednesday! :kitty:
Before getting to the Question of the Day, first let me take a moment to remind you today is the 23rd anniversary of September 11th, a day that changed many peoples' lives in history.

The principal first responders to 9-11 were: the Fire Dept., Police Dept, EMT (Emergency Medical Technicians), Air & Army National Guard and SAR (Search & Rescue Teams).

DO YOU HAVE A RELATIVE, NEIGHBOR OR FRIEND WHO IS A FIRST RESPONDER?

I have one family member who is an EMT first responder, several close friends who are firefighters, two friends who are paramedics and four friends plus two neighbors who are police officers or police detectives.

Not personally. I do billing for ambulance services. I deal mostly with business type people who work for the city or county but there are a few clients where I deal directly with EMT's. I occasionally need to read the narrative on their reports and that is a tough job.

All of my family, friends, and neighbors are too old for that now. My late nephew was a volunteer fireman, as was a late brother-in-law. Michele's late father also was a volunteer fireman, as were many of her cousins- it was a very small town, after all

My nephew is in law enforcement and has had a couple jobs in various local towns and cities but left them due to either being downsized or him moving to another area that required living where he worked. He just got a new job in the sheriff's department a month ago and seems excited about the upgrade.

My cat vet put herself through medical school by working as a paramedic and one of my cousins was a fire captain.

I was at work when the news came about the attack and it is one of those days that stays with you forever. A coworker lost her brother in law in the second tower.

I was at work as well. Some of the cranes had am/fm radios in them, and one of the operators called over the 2-way and said the World Trade Center had been hit by a plane. A plane? How big of a plane? When next he reported that another plane hit, nobody believed him. Then, when he said that one of the towers collapsed, again, no one believed him, because he was known to- shall we say- stretch the truth at times. It wasn't until we had access to a radio ourselves that the reality of the situation came out.
As a by the way; one of my nieces worked only a few blocks from the WTC, but she was in Philadelphia on business that day.

I completely agree, 9-11 is etched in my mind. The brother of one of our close friends worked in the towers but his alarm clock did not go off that day and he overslept. Someone must have been watching over him.

That is sort of like the story of the man who worked on a very top floor but had gone downstairs to buy a muffin, so survived.
It's been some time but I also thought there was a story about a man with a labrador retriever therapy dog who helped him descend the stairs. I could have my stories mixed up but seem to remember something about it.

Both my son and daughter in law are volunteer firefighters, and my son has his EMT certification as well. Before they moved down to be closer to us,they were both active in their department and loved it.Being on the road now during the week as he is,he doesn't really have the time (or maybe energy as well?) to join another department, but there is a station right around the corner from them, and he's made friends with several there. He stops by from time to time just to shoot the breeze with them and keep abreast of all that is new. They have invited him to come aboard but only being home 2 and a half days a week would make it hard to pull his weight and be fair to them.

My dad wasn't an EMT worker, but he used to volunteer for St John's Ambulance (a First aid training and volunteering organization) and got quite high up. He trained people and even started driving their ambulance. He got to see some cool shows as a volunteer and did stuff like meeting the Kids in The Hall. He enjoyed what he did, but eventually left for whatever reasons.
