Are you superstitious? A little "stitious"? Not "stitious" at all? What sorts of things are you superstious about, if you are?

I guess I am. I don't worry about Friday the 13th (not being a Knight Templar), I adore black cats (although the "bad luck cat" color changes from country to country. If broken mirrors bothered my, I'd have drowned myself long ago...BUT...there is a horse shoe over my door, ends up, for luck, there are actual IRON nails in my windows to keep the faerie out (they're tricksy, not to be trusted), I can't stand to have a cabinet door opened (causes the neighbors to gossip) although Hekitty's cabinet door often is...she could care less about gossip (AND has her own cabinet). I always stir pots on the stove clockwise. I ALWAYS store my broom with the bristles up to keep the virtue from running out, I never sweep toward the front door (sweeps the luck from the house), and the ONLY way I would ever bring an old broom into a new home is through the window, bristles first. I save snippets of sewing thread in pretty jars, and when one is full, tuck it near my front door for prosperity. AND I always put an apple cut in half outside my door when I go to bed on Halloween night. That's to feed wandering spirits and make them desposed to being kindly toward you. LOL, I really, REALLY don't believe that one, but I by George do it anyway! My Gran would have a fit if I didn't!

GOOD GRIEF! I may actually be "hyperstitious!"

    Not a bit superstitious.

The guy I sit next to in class was repeating the black cat crossing your path thing, and I said that must be why my luck is so bad, because I have a black cat crossing my path every single day. That shut him up

No. There are things that I do, but it's mainly tradition; my grandmother did those things, too.

I'm not superstitious either. My mother was full of old wives' tales, and even as a child I didn't believe them. They didn't make any sense.

Not superstitious really but on a tangent, when I'm confident about something happening, say a promotion or similar, it usually doesn't work out. When I rule something out as highly unlikely, I've more of a chance of it bearing fruit.

Well, I'm not super fond of seeing Friday the 13th roll around but then again I have a cat named Thirteen so go figure! Like others, I think my issue with Friday the 13th stems from my lovely grandmother who was ridiculously superstitious. Me though . . . not so much.

Friday 13th has always been a lucky day for me (sad.. I only have 4 lucky days a year). I'm not superstitious but for some reason I always hold my breath when walking under a ladder.

Never have been. I do keep my cabinets closed with bungee cords, but that's because Onsa gets in and knocks everything out, not because of a superstition.

I don't really have any superstitions, either. I do pick up pennies when I see them on the ground and I always say "Lucky penny!" even though I don't actually believe they bring good luck. :dunno: Just habit, I suppose.

Not really. Like @betsygee I still pick up pennies and say that they're lucky, but I don't believe they have any effect. I've never been bothered by Friday 13th either.

I'm not superstitious but I guess I'm not very knowledgeable about superstitions either. I found the descriptions of yours delightful! Some of them sound very Terry Pratchet-esque. In that case you should add "Never trust a man with orange eyebrows". ;):D

I am not really superstitious. Neither were my grandmothers. I used to say good bye to each of my cats before leaving the house and I will pick up a penny if the head is up for good luck. But that's more out of habit.

That's not superstition; that's common sense. You shouldn't walk under ladders if you can help it; tools and paint cans and such can fall on you, and you can upset the ladder while someone is on it.

I have a few superstitions, though nothing as, um, colorful as yours, @Mamanyt1953.

    My superstitions:
    • When I watch the Denver Broncos play football, they lose.
    • When I discover a new product that I really, really like, the company making it will either go out of business soon or change the product so that it's not as good.
    • When I get in the shortest checkout line at the grocery store, someone in front of me will have trouble with their credit card, or writing a check, or (more recently) using their smartphone to pay. Or else the cash register will run out of tape, or the cashier will discover that she (or he) doesn't have the small bills needed to make change for someone.
    • Oh, yes. And when loved ones are flying I like to watch their plane take off, because planes never crash when I watch them take off. (Yeah, I know. That one's totally irrational.) The TSA has made this impossible of late.

So why is it that when I very carefully don't watch the Broncos play they actually start winning?

I used to have a lucky pencil, which I.... lost (typical me). I am a bit superstitious. On top of that pencil, I have a heart locket necklace that I wear for good luck. Funnily enough, there's not even anything in the locket!

@Mamanyt1953 - This is just plain silly. Brooms and bristles and whiskers, why I... hey... wait a minute... my Snowshoe sleeps on her stomach, with her whiskers pointed straight down, and....

Hey - how long will she have to say on her back before the Virtue to runs back into the cat???
