Good morning and Happy Whiskers Wednesday! :dancingblackcat:We tend to take the every day mundane things for granted. Monday when I came home and closed the garage door it made a loud boom sound. Long story short, the springs broke. It would only open a few inches and my car was stuck inside. đŸ˜± I called the garage door company and luckily they told DH and me how to temporarily open it and get my car out. The repair man came yesterday which we greatly appreciated.

WHAT'S THE LAST THING THAT NEEDED A REPAIR IN YOUR HOME?

dish washer which i was able to do myself after watching the maintenance guys do the fix before. :lol:i dont even tihnk it really counts as a repair since its just a simple matter of giving the pump a few spins by hand to get it unstuck. i am curious if it happens wit modern units tough maintenance guys told me we need to run dishwasher more:lol:.not happening since we both like cleaning dishes by hand better.

Renovations aside, our front door wouldn't latch. The bolt was hitting the lower part of the strike, and was only marginally engaging it. I had to file a bit on the strike's opening, then make a thin wooden shim to move it closer to the door. This door latch is an old mortise type, with inset buttons that control whether the outer knob will turn or not. The last price I saw for a similar replacement was around $250, but I doubt the quality is comparable.

Door between he kitchen in the garage. Lock jammed, had to call a locksmith. And we have no way to open the garage door from outside. Saturday on top of that, we had to find one of those emergency places who would come out. Fortunately, we found someone who came quickly, opened the door and changed the door knob.

A former cleaning person broke the faucet in the guest bath. Never said a word about it and went on her way. Fortunately I found a plumber and it was an easy fix.

My new cleaning person starts this afternoon.

One of the transition strips between the kitchen and hallway flooring has cracked in half. Fortunately it’s under warranty so the flooring company is replacing it. Its on order now.

Not my home thankfully, but I do have a crack on my windshield if that counts  it was due to a small but hardy rock that gave it a good whack while I was driving a few months ago.

Dishwasher. The top rack has one side that's disconnected from the tracking wheel, due to a small piece that's broken. The piece is so small, I don't want to pay for repairs, yet I don't know how to go about fixing it :/

My dryer. It has a fancy electronic control area (temperature, how dry you want the clothes, and a dial to set a particular cycle (bulky stuff, mixed--my usual, towels, etc) and then the power and start buttons. Well, that thing started acting all weird--turning on when I hadn't turned it on, and then displaying random numbers (where the number of minutes remaining normally is). Well, it's a gas dryer and freaky electronic behavior worried me, so I unplugged it.

I buy from a local shop for all my appliances, they have their own repair crew, so they sent their guy out, and after he got it to misbehave, he said the control board was bad, and that I had been right to keep it unplugged because it could have a random spark in there (very bad with a gas dryer and a gas furnace right next to it). So then the part came in, and got it fixed ... cost substantially less than replacing the dryer.

The plumbing. I hate having anything done in the house. Then came the bill.
I've heard plumbers have a service charge of $200.00 here just to walk in your house and tell you what's wrong. I don't know if that's true but it's what several people told me is the going rate. That's outrageous! :eek2:

A outlet on my porch that has been broken for the last couple years. It’s just one of those things that you don’t remember until you go to plug something in and the work around as been to run an extension cord from the other outdoor outlet about 25 feet away. A couple weeks ago I finally had an electrician in to replace the plug.

Outside of personal possessions that I use to maintain my house (in particular my lawn mower) being broken, the latest thing that needs to be worked on might be my roof. I had a large branch fall on it today and I've got some tree removal people coming to quote how much it would cost to have the whole tree taken down and deal with the branch. I've been planning on having that tree taken down for awhile now because it drops at least one giant branch every year and it is not healthy. It's a 65 year old maple so it is HUGE.
