Same - there were bagel shops in some Melbourne suburbs, but here, I've no idea. When I'm eating out I just get a sandwich, cake and coffee. They aren't really a thing where I live, and certainly not all the different varieties. I'm not sure I've even had one.
I was going to ask you that catloverfromwayback . I have, now I think about it, because it was something ready to eat. The hole in the middle was a bit odd as everything squishes out through it when you take a bite. There is a bagel franchise in Brisbane offering the 'best New York bagels'.I don't think I've ever eaten one.
I remember being in Caulfield somewhere once and seeing a place selling "boiled bagels". The name put me right off, sounded like bread that'd been boiled!I was going to ask you that catloverfromwayback . I have, now I think about it, because it was something ready to eat. They are only boiled for 60 to 90 seconds before they are baked. The old traditional way was to add a little lye to the water but I think now a little baking soda is added to the water. They are put in a hot oven after the boiling. The boiling step is what gives them the crisp glossy exterior.I remember being in Caulfield somewhere once and seeing a place selling "boiled bagels".
