Good morning and Happy Whiskers Wednesday! :hellocat: Today is Love Your Bookshop Day. A little background: It’s a holiday that was founded by the Australian Booksellers Association. It not only creates an appreciation for bookshops but encourages more people to read. The local brick and mortar bookshops need all the support they can get. Whether we’re traveling or just running errands we love to discover new bookstores especially if they have a cozy chair and coffee.😉 We instilled this love of books in our children too.

WHERE DO YOU BUY YOUR BOOKS?

For new stuff, the only option in my area is Barnes and Noble. There is, however, a used book store that we patronize from time to time, and there are yard and estate sales as well.

Good ol’ Canada eh!
I love to sneak into every little tiny bookshop or large library. No specific spot. Never any harm in looking! We went camping, and I got a temporary library card and checked out some books to read while we were there. Will definitely do that again.

Where my cats are
Amazon for my Kindle and some print versions. We have no local bookstores beyond like Walmart or Target’s book sections. I will get to a Barnes & Noble or BooksAMillion when I can but its typically a planned trip with a good hour of driving or while on vacation. Used books typically come through Thriftbooks or Ebay but sometimes Amazon too. I get a lot of fiction for my kids through Thriftbooks (and teacher benefits; which are so appreciated!!).

There is a used bookstore about 45 minutes away thats only open 3 days a week. Its unairconditioned so I’m waiting for better weather to plan a trip. We went in summer once and it was super stuffy.

There is a wonderful used bookstore near my inlaws that i try to get to every year. They give me a little discount for being a homeschooler too.

We are supposed to have a new bookshop opening locally in the next couple of months. Its being opened by a younger woman and I think she plans to have space for artists and other handmade vendors to sell things. The town has been having a fun little revival of shops and restaurants so I pray its another positive for our community! There is already a great bakery across the street and several cafe type restaurants so it could be a fun place for me to get out to by myself even.

If I see an actual book that I am interested in I'll check Amazon. If I want to download books my first stop is Gutenberg.org
They have free books that are no longer copyrighted. They have tons of books that you might never have heard of and will like.

I have read lots of kids books and classics that I missed when I was younger.

I have not bought a book new in a long time. I buy secondhand books online or in local used book stores. I also get them free from random neighborhoods that have these small library houses setup outside where people leave books there for others to take. I also regularly put books in those tiny houses, too :)

I don't buy books. I rarely re-read things and I get overwhelmed by stuff, so the 20ish books I have are things I refer to (cookbooks, coding/GIS reference books, style manuals, etc.). I rely heavily on the library for my reading.

Honestly the first place I check is amazon, and sometimes I have to bide my time til the price comes down to my liking. That's for the used copies...I can't tell you when I bought a book that was new!

I'm pretty much getting books through Amazon for my Kindle (I won the Kindle in a raffle a few years ago and have used it heavily ever since).

I no longer buy books. I used to have many, bought in Melbourne bookshops. I had to get rid of most of them in two huge downsizing moves. I have no room for more and my attention span is shorter these days, so I do all my reading on websites.

For moooost of my books, there's a small shop in town called 'Prairie Sky Books'. It sells a lot of small things, like incense and ritual items for the local pagan community. Its books cover mainly religion, but you can order just about anything under the sky. It has a resident cat who greets you (don't know if the cat's since passed away....) and it smells of incense when you enter. LOVE it!

Mostly online. I love going to bookstores, but there are only a few in the closest town and they don`t stock books in English. I can read Japanese, but only to about Junior High level and it`s more like studying than reading to relax.

There used to be a really good bookstore in Tokyo that I`d visit once a year, but it closed down.

If possible, The Avid Bookshop in West End, Brisbane. If they don't have it I ask if they can order it in. I would be easier to buy from some anonymous online source, but I really feel we need to support the real thing. Avid has book clubs and a really delightful kid's bookshop next door to their old store.
If it's really obscure, then it's online.

I couldn't agree more! :agree: Before Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Border's, etc. we loved going to the ma & pa bookshops. I only wish there were more of them still around today.

Kindle Unlimited books, or free Kindle books. I prefer that because if I find I don't like the book, I haven't wasted any money on it. If we want a hard copy of a book for some reason, from Amazon. I used to buy books at Mr. Mike's, a second hand store, but they moved further away and I'm not a huge fan of driving that far.

I like supporting my local bookstore because then I get to see their cat.
There's something about bookshops and cats that go together. :catlove: When one of our daughters was living in NY she was walking distance from a small bookstore that had 2 resident Himalayan kitties. I would go out of my way just to see the cats then check out the books.
