I had this thought earlier today while eating an orange, but one big reason why some kids hate fruits and vegetables is because they are inconsistent in flavor and texture. So for today's question:

What fruits and vegetables do you think consistently taste the same? What about the ones that are always inconsistent in flavor/texture/etc.?

For me I would say the most consistent fruits and veggies are carrots, asparagus, bananas, most apples, pineapple, cherries, and tomatoes.
The most notorious inconsistent fruits and veggies I would say are oranges, avocados, grapes, most berries, and lettuce.

I've had cherries that taste like water or just not very good. I feel like broccoli and other cruciferous stuff is pretty consistent. Squashes are pretty good too I think? Citrus definitely a crapshoot sometimes. Grapes are decent usually? Avocados are rough. You sneeze and they're black.

Apples can be wildly inconsistent, I find. Sweet or not sweet, juicy or not, even within the one variety (my favourites are Royal Galas). Bananas tend to be the consistent, just more or less ripe (and they ripen quickly). The variability of fruit is one of the things that puts me off - I like things to taste the same every time.

I never notice it with vegetables, they're cooked and I don't like them much anyway, except potatoes.

~ Here in the USA most vegetables and fruits taste the same — tasteless. 😩 Picked before ripe and " gassed to perfection ".
We need small local farms like in the old days ...

The one fruit I find the most inconsistency with is apples. We used to get a wonderful selection in the fall but that has changed.I love Jonathans but never see them anymore. Many stores freeze their apples and you can tell as soon as you taste them.

Blueberries are inconsistent. That doesn’t bother me usually. I bought 2 last weekend that had huge berries. Some were sweet, some were sour and some were bland mush. Im still eating them though.

Anything that can continue to ripen seems pretty consistent. Or harder texture fruits and veggies. Its the soft ones most susceptible to fluctuations I think. But also the weather and season affect it. Sometimes local stuff is best; but sometimes the greenhouse grown stuff does a better job controlling growing conditions.

Cruciferous vegetables seem to be consistent and stone fruits seem to be the most variable.

This can also be very true, including of organic produce.
