Norachan Norachan and I are sharing Thursday's QOD until a lovely member lets us know they'd like to do it.

I have a really large garden and really am not up to mowing it all these days.
My question is..
Do you or have you ever had a lawn, and if so, do or did you look after it yourself or hire someone to do it?

This is about 1/10th of my lawn, so it's a big job, and there's a large area of lawn in front of my land that I also need to look after.

We used to have lawns in the houses I lived in as a kid. I think my mother did all of the weeding, mowing and planting. I can`t imagine my dad ever doing anything like that.

I`ve lived in apartments or houses with no garden at all until I moved to the place I live now. We have a big piece of land, but it`s in a forest and grass doesn`t grow well here. I just leave it to go wild. We bought a house with land so that the cats would have a safe place to go outside and they seem to like it as it is. I`m thinking of putting some woodchip paths down in the spring to make it easier to walk around, but that`s probably all I`ll do.

There were a few years when we had a Flymo and I'd do our smallish front and back lawns, but mostly in the years when it was Mum and me in three houses we used local mowers or franchises to do it. Now, my back yard is concrete and pebbles and the communal lawn is (occasionally) mowed by the maintenance crew.

We live on an acerage right outside of town, our yard and house sit on two acres. my husband mows, i have extensive flower beds, mostly berms, and a large garden. The weeding keeps me busy every day, spraying weeds on the big areas, the watering even more so. I love the quiet and the fresh air. Winter brings me a break, though I am kept busy then too, hauling out ashes, bringing in firewood (my husband does do most of that) and refilling humidifiers with RO water.

We have 1-1/3 acres of property. I used to push-mow the whole thing as did Rick. Years ago we bought a riding mower and then, two years ago, we bought a larger riding mower. We have our veggie garden and there are a few flower beds. But there’s still a lot of trimming to do, which takes a lot of time, too. I used to trim, but since I got sick, Rick trims and I mow.

I leave mowing the lawn to DH while I plant flowers, water and pull weeds. The front of our house gets full sun during the day in summer and since it gets pretty hot I don't have as many plants there. We have a fair amount of shrubbery too which needs trimming more often than I'd like to think about.

Since we traveled alot when I was smaller we didn't have much land, but once my family bought a hobby farm we had 75 acres worth  definitely a lot of mowing alongside farming activities and horses.

Right now I live in a house with 1 acre in the back and approx. 1 acre in the front. I like it alot, not too much and not too little. BF and myself mow it, although if we ever win the lottery we would love to hire someone

The gardening I do, although darling guy helps with the heavier stuff a lot.

I used to have a service come mow it twice a month until they decided to add mandatory services that included putting down chemicals (nope!) Now mow the lawn myself and have a guy come out once or twice a year to trim the bushes and get rid of the weeds. That's not something I am up to doing myself.

When I was a kid, the lawn mowing and garden weeding chores fell to me, with the exception of the flower beds- those were the province of my father. We didn't have a lawn of our own to care for until we bought our house 20(!) years ago, and it is only slightly than a postage stamp, so I do all the work myself.

We have a decent sized yard. When I was single/by myself I mowed until I saw a lot of garter snakes. Then that was a big nope for me. I hired a neighbor kid to do it. Then hubs came along and he does it. Last year he got an electric/battery mower and loves it.

I grew up on a farm and we had a large yard and a huge garden which we took care of ourselves. I have lived in three homes with lawns of varying sizes which I took care of. I didn't like doing it but I have a deep-seated aversion to paying someone to do something that I can do myself. I am back in an apartment so no taking care of the lawn. I admit I really enjoy hearing the lawn being mowed and trimmed by other people.

I do have a fairly large yard and lawn. I have had others do the mowing but it is expensive and a bit frustrating because weather Impacts whether it should be mowed weekly or every few days, and with a contract they come once a week regardless. So for now do it myself. I use a self propelled mower and it takes about an hour and a half to mow it all. I don’t mind it except when it is really hot.

We have 1 1/3 acres of flat open land. My husband mows it ( I should really have him show me how to run that thing in I ever need to do it) He grows all the vegetables and I do all the herbs, flowers and trees and shrubs. I can see possibly having to have someone mow in the future or needing to add more raised beds. We have talked about adding even more beds for flowers etc for my my husband to have less mowing. That would mean a lot more weeding. We garden organically and stay away from weed killers they don't kill the roots anyway.Growing organically here is a issue because there are so many bugs but we feel it is the way to go for us.

We have 3 acres....not quite half gets mowed by one of us,then there's a section for his bee yard and one for the garden, and finally the rest is pasture. The neighbor has horses,so we let her use that however she wants.
