A very good friend is taking care of her little four year old grandson for a few days. My friend has a great singing voice and sings all the time and it appears that the little boy has inherited both her voice and love of singing. However, as I listened to him, I realized that little kids often don't "hear" the real lyrics and substitute what they think that they heard. I myself remember doing this.
When I was a kid, I could never figure out why the "Star Spangled Banner" ended with "the land of the free and the home of the Braves." What did the Milwaukee Braves do to get mentioned in the national anthem and how had the Los Angeles Dodgers lost out?
"God Bless America" was not even confusing to me. After all, everyone knew that light came from a bulb so it was perfectly logical that America would be watched "through the night with a light from a bulb."
One of my nephews used to sing about wanting a "home where the cantaloupe roam". After all, he had never seen an antelope.
What song lyrics did you confuse or found that someone else had altered to fit what they thought that they heard?
