neely neely oh, no! Oh, no! I am somewhere beyond shocked! :thud:But hey, DH surprised me with another piece of furniture if your DH would be okay with taking a look at it. After my phone finishes doing it's updating crap, I will take a picture of it. I may have to charge my phone, too. Why do I have to do that? Why? Why can't it learn to charge itself?

Of course, I'd be happy to show him a pic and give you his best opinion even though he can't inspect it in person.

Thank you so much neely neely . I just took few pictures of it. My phone is showing out and currently won't let me post pictures in the site, but I will tag you in when I can post.

DH wanted me to put it in the guest room for the night because he didn't want the cats to break the glass before I can clean it up and he can hang it on the wall. I said, "I don't want a haunted curio in my closet!" I have myself a big nice walk-in closet in the guest room, plus half of his. When we got home this afternoon, the cats (I am hoping it was the cats) were playing and knocked the alarm clock off the dresser. Then, the TV right next to the walk-in closet came on.

DH: Did the TV just come on by itself?

Me: I told you that curio cabinet was haunted!

I am really happy with it though. I don't know if it's an antique or something someone made.

My mom had an old Shaker cabinet that belonged to her sister. It was painted and nobody would have ever guessed it was worth anything at all. That is how I know my cousin stole it. No criminal in their right mind would have broken into my mom's house and stole that cabinet and nothing else. Heck, an antique dealer may not have stolen it over other stained antiques that were really pretty.

neely neely This is the top of it. It looks so much larger in the picture. I am going to have to replace the knobs because one is missing. The picture I took of the whole thing mysteriously disappeared from my camera. I couldn't make this stuff up. I have enough drama in my life already. :rolleyes2:

nurseangel nurseangel DH said he can sympathize with having too much drama in your life. As for the curio he asked if you can take a pic of the bottom - he also said he can't tell what type of wood it is from the pic - is the inside painted too? However, he said the design on top is an applied appliqué as opposed to being hand carved. And he asked if the one knob on the right of the pic is glass?

neely neely thank you and your DH so much. The knob is metal. The cabinet is painted inside. I got a picture of part of the bottom, as well as the fixtures where it opens and closes. My dad used to be able to tell a lit by those. From the smell of it, it hasn't been opened in a good while. It smells like paint.

Please tell your DH I will post a really nice antique telephone table for him to see. I don't think it has a bit of metal on it except for the name of the manufacturer on the back. Somebody (DH) set a glass down on it after we had it refinished. It left a water mark, of course. We did have to have one new piece of wood put on the chair because it is so fragile. It is very special to me. My dad bought it at an auction before I was born. He said that when he bought it, he never dreamed he would have a daughter who would grow up and want it. And now I am about to cry.

Let's change that to I am crying.

DH said you should try stripping a small piece of the curio to see the type of wood. If it's a hardwood like oak, mahogany or walnut it would be worth it but if it's a softwood like pine or fruitwood not really worth your efforts to strip. By door swing things, did you mean the hinges?

neely neely yes, sorry, the hinges! I could not think of the name. I don't know why, I keep thinking everyone is doing DYI projects and I am buying them. We must all remember I am the person who voted against my parents buying a gorgeous dropleaf Duncan Phyfe table for ninety dollars because it was what I am thinking was cherry and had been sitting in the sun in front of a window. The ends of the table were dropped and so they were a darker than the rest of the table.

I love, love, love kitchen gadgets! Dear Richard keeps telling me that if I bring something into the kitchen, something has to go out. (Which means that I just put it in the basement. :paperbag: )

The thing is, throughout the year, I eventually use pretty much everything I have. For example, I have a 5-tray dehydrator that spends most of its time in the cupboard. But come tomato season, it's out drying tomato skins for tomato powder. Or garlic for garlic powder. Onions for onion powder. I just did five trays of corn kernels for dried corn. I don't use my stuff that often, but it does get used. And even Rick will admit it.
