Hi y'all,

I have a saying that if I really like something, they take it off the market. Does that ever happen to you, and if so, what would you like to see be brought back?

For me, it would be:
1. Pepsi with cane sugar (the throwback kind just isn't the same)
2. The Marathon candy bar (as much as this is addressed online, it seems anyone could bring it back and become rich)
3. These chocolate candy bars with creamy strawberry filling (I can't remember the name, but they were delicious)
4. Morton TV dinners
5. Lemon Freeze pops (they may still be around somewhere; these were sold at 7-11 and about three feet long)
6. The bacon chips that looked like bacon (think Beggin' Strips for dogs, but crispy and for people )
7. Jack's Christmas Cookies
8. Taco flavored Doritos (the kind from the 70s, so disappointed when they came back and the flavor had changed)
9. Pudding in a can (I can deal with the plastic cups, but it definitely tasted better in cans)
10. Chef Boyardee Spaghetti Kit with condensed sauce (the first kind)
11. Cap'n Crunch Punch Crunch cereal
12. Kumquats, which still exist, but nobody ever sells them around here

It seems like all I want is food, but there are other things, too, like really good diners (especially in stores), the Playdoh Fuzzy Pumper Barber Shop, and lash darkening mascara. Lash darkening mascara! And Shoney's Restaurants. Shoney's, if you're still out there somewhere, please come back to me! Come back to me. :sniffle:

Morton's TV dinners? Back when Michele and I were poor, we would buy as many as we could afford at $.79 each. The only Shoney's I ate at was in Milwaukee in '68.
As for me, it's tools. I buy the best that I can afford, but they all eventually wear out. And wouldn't you know it, the good steel lawn spreader, for instance, has been replaced by a cheap plastic one that doesn't work worth a hoot for my purposes. It never fails.

Mona Living face cream. I'm not sure if it was just a UK thing or sold more widely, but it was a plant-based moisturiser with lavender and neroli in it. It was expensive, but it was the best one I ever used. I don't think I had a single breakout while I was using it, at most only minor ones. I haven't been able to get it for a couple of years, not in shops, not online, so I think the company went out of business.

Shoney's is still around in about 28 states.
Independent hardware stores, very few if any left. They are/ were very different then these big box chains.
Quality products more and more things are designed as throw aways nothing is made to last. Many aren't even that good new.

Two of my favorite department stores: Marshall Field's and Carson Pirie Scott. Both were staples here for a long time. They were bought by several different companies but were never the same, e.g. poor quality of products, poor customer service, etc.

The pillows Ive been so happy with. DH and I have bought a rediculous amount of pillows to try. He keeps stealing my hug/lay on pillow so I went to get him one and can’t find them except online.

If I squint, I can barely remember Automats, and loved them. Trains, really nice trains. Listening booths at real record stores. OK I guess I don’t shop that much there’s only one store around here anyway.

N NY cat man I loved them as a child! They had cartoon farm scene on the box! Are you saying you miss them, too?

Margot Lane Margot Lane even though I've never been to an Automat, I wish we had them now. I mean, Edward Hopper is my favorite painter. And I loved the movie "The Shape of Water" until the making out with a Fish Man scene. We had some old Art Deco style department stores here in town and shopping in them was wonderful. They are gone now. I also went to a drugstore in my mom's hometown with a lunch counter that served ice cream with an antique square scoop. I did look for the old square ice cream scoops on an online auction site, but they cost a small fortune.

IzzysfureverMom IzzysfureverMom the last time I had a meal at Shoney's was in Daytona Beach. It was next door to the Hampton Inn. Perfect + perfect.

Appliances that last. They didn't have a lot of bells and whistles but they lasted. I don't think they cost any more when you take into account inflation. My old clothes dryer gave up the ghost a few years ago and it was well over 20 years old. When I went to Lowe's to get another one the salesperson was an older gentleman and he said you know this one won't last that long and I said I know.

My parents bought an upright Sub Zero freezer, sometime in the mid-50s if I recall. It went with us when we sold the farm, and when my parents passed it was still in the house, and still running, 50-some years later. You won't see durability like that today.

We bought the Morton's dinners because they were cheap, and reasonably filling. We also bought macaroni and cheese 'dinners' because they were 7 for a dollar. At the time, after the rent was paid, we were living on $110 a month, so we saved wherever possible. I can't say as I really miss them all that much.

I miss the Craftsman tools, when they were good. I got my dad a set for Christmas one year and my husband, too. He still has the tool box and some of the tools.

And my brother bought me a TV (the kind that was like a piece of furniture) that outlasted a number of my mom's flat-screens.

N NY cat man I was a really picky eater as a child and found their chicken dinners great. I am still picky and love Rayman noodles. Sometimes, I eat them for breakfast.

Food related things would be Pomegranate 7-Up (it was a seasonal thing around 12 years ago), Ben & Jerry's Hazed & Confused, and a couple of Lean Cuisine dinners that I loved, one was turkey tenderloins with green beans, almonds and cranberries (I loved it because it tasted good and didn't have potatoes, I hate potatoes in most forms especially in microwave meals) and the other was a braised beef thing with mashed sweet potatoes. I felt both of them were a good meal to have because it had what I needed for protein and a vegetable.

Sub-zero is the dream. :cloud9:

When I initially bought appliances for my home, I told DH that I would rather have the most simple Kitchenaid than the most elaborate of any other brand. It stood the test of time and only had a few options.

The TV I mentioned 📺 earlier was still going strong when we finally got a flat screen. I have to say it's still holding up, but not so with my second refrigerator, which was assembled in another country. The salesman told us when it failed and ruined a lot of food that a part was put in wrong and caused the problem.

I learned from a man at work who once sold appliances that the seller had to pay for the food we lost. They did, when I pressed the issue. I had to make an itemized list. They paid for everything except for the gourmet cookie dough I had just bought from my neighbor's son yearly school Christmas sale. No explanation. And it was snickerdoodle! Snickerdoodle! Those monsters! :yelling:

One of my prized possessions is a set of Craftsman Robogrip pliers. They are just so helpful for us small handed weaklings.
