Happy Weekend!

Are you old enough to remember S & H green stamps? Did you ever get anything with them?

My mom, sister, and I all used to save our green stamps. Mom bought us some pretty neat stuff with her stamps. And if there was something that one of us wanted, the others all chipped in to help us get it.

I think the neatest thing I got was a Three Mountaineer spice rack back in the early 70s. I liked it so much that I bought another one several years ago and both of them hang in my kitchen. Mom gave my sister and I each a 12 Days of Christmas glass set. I still use them. She got one for herself, too; after she downsized, I took her set. That way, if my sister or I break one, we have a replacement.

When Michele and I were first married, we got a Tensor desk lamp with them. We still have it; in fact, I'm using it right now to type this. My mother collected them, and got all kinds of things with them. There was only one place locally to redeem them, though. It was a Hens & Kelly department store, which, like the stamps, is long gone now.

We got S&H green stamps and gold stamps. I don't remember what all we got with them but my mom got me a beautiful watch once for Christmas and I still have it. I don't wear it anymore, but it's a wonderful memory. We had catalogs to pick from a store to shop in. Green or Gold I don't remember which was which.

I have a vague memory of them. I was very young so honestly can't recall what my mother bought with them.

I remember the S & H Green stamps...along with the pain of sitting down and pasting them into the pages of the book.. A wet sponge on top of a flat plate dessert plate, cutting them, pasting them in the books!
It was a family project. My mom, me and my Dad all got together at the kitchen table and pasted...

They had some really good items to chose from. I cannot remember anything specific, but my mom got a ton of stuff from them.

Memories of a day gone by....

That’s probably what my grandma used to get her good dishes. Something about like grocery rewards program would be today I think. I have a very vague memory of my mom having some kind of booklet with things in it in a grocery store; but it could have been from WIC or something. I don’t remember anything beyond her having it.

Mom used to collect gold bond stamps from one of grocery stores, which must have been the Canadian version. I remember filling the little booklets but can’t remember what she eventually got with them.

I remember my mom collecting them, and the Blue Chip stamps. They were pasted in a book and I can still see the crinkly, warped pages. We must have gotten things with them, but I have absolutely no recollection of what that would have been.

I remember S&H Green stamps from my childhood. My mom got them from PickNPay grocery store, The May Company and Sohio gas station when she did her shopping. She usually stuck them in the booklets but sometimes let us kids do it. I remember being meticulous getting them lined up in the spaces on the pages. I also remember how the crinkly and warped books got when the pages were all filled up.

I don't remember what Mom bought with them though. I'm pretty sure she redeemed them at the grocery store as I remember there was a window at the customer service counter that checked every page of the book when it was submitted.
