Happy Weekend!

Wow, I can't believe we're in November already!
We are looking for a new mattress. We are long overdue for a new one. It's hard as a shelf and we're ready for something comfy. And Rick is looking for something that will support his hip better. Probably a queen (or king, depending) Temper-pedic that adjusts.

What mattress do you have and do you like it?

I have something from Sears. No idea what specific brand. I bought it online and took a chance that it would work for me and it ended up being the best mattress I've ever had. The mattress I had before it fell apart within 2 years. I've had this current mattress for 8 years and it's still in excellent shape.

I have an old-fashioned mattress from Original Mattress Factory that can be flipped. I have had it for well over ten years and it is still in good shape. It is their top quality plush orthopedic mattress.

We have 2 stearns & foster king xl mattresses. DH prefers firm and I need plush; so this was our compromise. I bought a strap and bridge thing off Amazon and that equals a king bed. I did add another memory foam topper to my side. But it’s comfy to me and I’m not stepping foot in a mattress store again as long as i can help it!! We went through a several month long fiasco trying to figure out this arrangement. My favorite was the full king DH couldn’t stand. :rolleyes2: Now he can add and remove his own toppers or whatever whenever he wants. I’m comfy and we are technically still in the same bed!

I gave up on a good bed. Beds seem to end up with a divot within 2 years. So this last round we went with a cheap Casper foam mattress from Costco. Figure we can replace it more often. The other option was to spend like $3000+ on something that might not last either.

We went looking for a new mattress during the Labor Day weekend sale. I was having some back problems and asked my doctor to put in an order for me to get physical therapy. The exercises were helpful but what helped me the most was splurging on a new mattress. I won't buy a mattress without trying it out. I know a lot of people order on-line but that's not my style. I have to see it, feel it and lay on it in person. Plus DH and I have to agree which is not an easy task. Tempur-pedic makes a good quality mattress but it was too pricey for us. We both agreed on a Restonic and I have to tell you it solved all my back problems - best night's sleep ever!

I have a bed in a box Linen Spa queen latex hybrid mattress, about seven years old. It was the third of three mattresses purchased over the course of a year. I was miserable sleeping on the first two, with backaches on the first and hip pain on the second. I purchased this one on Amazon because it was only $250 and I was desperate. It has been, since day one, the most comfortable mattress I have ever slept on.

That happens to me and laying in a divot gives me a backache and sciatica. I learned with the current mattress that I need latex because it bounces back rather than permanently conforming to your body.

I 'hear' Rick... I currently have a Sealy posture-pedic Black, firm.. It is over 5 years old and still has somewhat of a divot in the center. Right now it is not really helping my hip. I got it at a really good furniture shop when I got my previous one. They kind of suggested that the next one will probably be something like a Tempur-pedic--- so expensive.

From what I am hearing an adjustable base with a flexible mattress is the way to go. It seems like the adjustable base is what is necessary as we age. They are expensive also.. but better construction than a hospital bed.
Something to think about.

For me it would entail getting a new bed to accommodate the base. I currently have a platform bed, without a box spring, with 2 drawers under the bed. Kind of wish I had purchased the adjustable bed, when I moved it..

It is something to think about..

My husband tried to talk me into an adjustable bed. It might help me snore less. We’ve been able to keep the same box-spring so that’s helped with keeping the price down. He hates delivering the ones that come in a bunch of boxes but I think he secretly wants something like that.

DD could use a new mattress. I think for her I’d risk buying online. We went with cheaper ones expecting little kid problems…that never happened. She complained again the other day about waking up with pain.
