Sorry for being late today! We just got home from the Phila area for a retirement party for my sister. It was wonderful as I got to spend time with my niece and nephew and their families. We had a blast. I drove down and back, about a 5-hour round trip, so I'm pretty pooped.

When was the last time you got together with anyone in your family for a picnic or party or just to grab dinner and chat?

The last time? Two weeks ago we attended a dinner for Michele's brother and his wife on their 50th anniversary.
For my family? It was in 2002 after the funeral service for our father, when we had a small get-together.

We last had dinner with the kids when Harry got home from the hospital. They are actually the only blood family we have in Missouri now,so we try and see each other one way or the other as often as we can.

Our daughter who is studying in the UK came for a visit in May. We met up with our other daughter for lunch and spent the rest of the day together.

Unfortunately about two Thanksgiving ago .When I did a very large dinner. Since then when family is together it because of illnesses in the family cancer, stroke amongst other things. So we have been traveling back and forth a lot especially recently because of family health issues. We are all spread out across the country so it is not like when we all lived in the same state or two. Hopefully we will get back to getting together more, but it is definitely more difficult now.

My stepdad is a 4th of July baby so family from his side tends to come for the day then. His father is in his 90s and came with his wife and 3 of my stepdads sisters. Also my stepbrother came with his wife and their 3 kiddos. I loved getting to meet them again and getting to know my SIL. They are Navy so visit are rare.

I grew up with tons of 2nd and 3rd cousins around because my grandparents came from large families. There was also Sunday dinner at Gram’s every week with aunts, uncles and first cousins. I miss those days. They stopped when my mom and stepdad married and we moved. It makes the family gatherings now more meaningful and appreciated though. There is only one sibling left of any of my grandparents and her husband just passed. It feels like shes all thats left of that era/generation.

My gosh an hour and a half later I learn she passed this morning. 😟😔 Not yet 2 weeks after her husband. Kind of a blessing; to both be in their 90s and go close together after marrying young. I’m sad for us but really that’s a life well lived for them.

Enjoy what we can when we can with our family right?

I am so sorry. Seems like that often happens with the elderly who have been married for a very long time, when one passes the other also does shortly after. I think they are holding on for each other, when one passes the other is ready to go also.

Thank you. And Yes I’m not surprised at all and it’s comforting in a way. They were the last of any of my grandparents siblings; so that part is sad. I know they were ready. I’m glad my great aunt didn’t have to spend a long time mourning too. Everyone was surprised my other grandmother lived another 12 years after my grandfather passed. They were glued at the hip. I was able to see them twice in the last few years; so I’m grateful for that too.

Been a while ago. Must have been Christmas with my mom's side of the family. We have my mom and my oma's (She's gonna be 95!!!!) birthdays on the 27th, so the family is getting together again for a big shindig. Can't wait to see everyone again! My cousin's children are so grown up since the last time I saw them :D.
