Good morning. :sunshine:

So, I was thinking about all those poor people on the Diamond Princess who aren't allowed to leave their cabins for two weeks. They must be so bored! Then I thought going on one of those cruises must be so boring anyway. Being on a big ship and just wandering around shopping malls or visiting the on board casino to kill time would be my idea of a holiday hell.

What would be the worst way for you to spend your holidays?

For me being on a big cruise ship, going on a package tour where you have to stay with a guide or going somewhere like Butlins would be my worst nightmare.

Going to VISIT certain family members and being stuck in their house. LOL The worst for me is being stuck in a car for hours and hours, days and days, and by the time I get there I am so numb I can't even enjoy it. i would much rather fly. Ironically, driving and exploring, (AND visiting his relatives), is something my husband really enjoys, so I endure!

With anyone who smoked inside their house. Before my FIL passed away, he chain smoked in their little trailer with zero ventilation. I dreaded going to see them. I told B that we wouldn't stay in their house again if he kept smoking like that.

I understand "his house, his rules", but I also enjoy, ya know, breathing.

Bad weather and not being able to travel. Usually we stay close to home but this year we visited one of our daughters for Thanksgiving and I was worried about the elements.

There are a few people in my life where it would be hell to have to go on vacation with, no matter where we went. But as for the type of vacation...places like Vegas that are over crowded and loud would be my version of a horrible vacation.
Travelling in general I'm not a fan of, busy highways, especially if there is a chance of bad weather making the commute scary, crowded airports, having to be close to strangers (bus, plane)...don't like any of it.

My parents are going on a cruise later this year. I was invited too, but I don't think I will. Just thinking about it makes me feel claustrophobic and anxious. But most of being on a cruise is lounging around and eating from the buffets constantly, and I'm well suited to that ;). So that's not my worst vacation.

I think my worst vacation would be anything dangerous. I'm not a thrill-seeker and I don't see any point in risking my life. No mountain climbing, bungee jumping, or skydiving for me, thanks.

I would want to go to an island or on a cruise because I couldn’t stand the feeling of being contained. I remember some years back there was a cruise ship malfunction and when it docked it took hours for everyone to exit. That was enough to make me never want to cruise. And to be stuck with sick people, be it this virus or even the stomach flu, terrible.

My worst though would be to spend the holidays at my moms. I barely get through a couple hours there when I clean on Sunday’s. Too dirty, crowded and claustrophobic.

I got food poisoning once on a vacation. That was BAD.

I agree with certain family members, in an airport, etc. I have no desire to go on a cruise ever. That sounds like a nightmare to me. When my husband and I go on vacation we like to explore the area. We spend very little time in our hotel room. When we went to Punta Cana in May for a family wedding, it was all-inclusive and you couldn't leave the resort. Sure, we explored the resort, but it gets old after a while.

They have plenty of activities on cruises from music to gambling, and they have movies, swimming and shows as well as lots of food. But the honest truth is the cabins are claustrophobic (even with a big window). You are stuck with the same people the entire time-even when you get to port thousands of those same people are also getting off ship. I'll never go on another one. But I really do feel a great deal of sympathy for those "quarantined" due to corona virus. They were already "stuck" imo on an overcrowded tiny island, and now they are stuck with very ill people. That being said, many people love cruises although I'll never understand why.

Backpacking. One of DH's favorite things to do. I like short day-hikes. I also like modern bathrooms and sleeping in my own bed.

I've been on 2 cruises and enjoyed them. I only took one excursion and that was after we got back between the ship and the airport. We had time to kill and it wasn't an expensive one; so we took an airboat tour of the everglades in Florida and got to see some gators. The first cruise I took I was 16 and had friends there because a big group of people from my church had planned it together with a travel agent. They had a "teen" side to the club. I really hope no one remembers my dancing skills. (Because I don't have any.) But I'm told there are pictures somewhere. It was fun trying new foods that I wouldn't try at home; lobster, escargot, caviar, etc. We liked the deck top hot tub after dinner too.

Both cruises I took stopped in Key West and I LOVED the cats there of course. One shop had 3 cats that were so cute! And of course I got to go to Ernest Hemingways house and see his cat's descendants. And pet them. :catlove: That was the highlight of the cruise. Our other stops were in Mexico and beautiful. So overall they were good trips.

People who love cruises are the kinds of people who are afraid to do real traveling. They also can't handle being in a different environment. I went on a cruise to Alaska and that was cool but the thought of cruising to other places doesn't interest me. I love building my own itinerary. I've planned my own trips to Thailand, Galapagos, and Australia and had an amazing time on each.

The worst kind of vacation for me would be being stuck at someone's house. That's not what I want to use my precious vacation days on!

Aside from the obvious horrible things that can go wrong (Weather, illness, violence etc) I am also not a big fan of cruises.

I just don't like city/location hopping. If I am going to travel somewhere, I want to "Marinate" myself in the local area for a little while. I particularly love history, and I don't want to miss out on too much. It is sort of similar to those group bus things.

Every time I chat with someone who went on a cruise or a bus tour group, and they simply do one or two day visits of Vienna, Oslo or Dubrovnik or however, the convos tend to be a little disappointing after getting excited. Sure, get to see the basics main sites like Charles Bridge or the Colosseum (Which is wonderful of course, don't get me wrong) or maybe took a Game of Thrones tour or however, but nothing in regards to the rest....Terezin? Italian Resistance Museum? Communist Underground Bunkers? Hofburg Palace? Sermoneta? Newgrange? Belfast Peace Wall? Climb to the top of Mount Vesuvius? Catacombs? Goes over their heads or completely oblivious. Whereas I can chat forever with other travelers about all these great sites, museums and exchange suggestions.

Plus, on a cruise I would eventually get cabin fever! Now with all that being said, I honestly do get why many people enjoy them. I can see it being a very relaxing experience with a lot of things taken care of for you, with the enjoyment of a travelling hotel and amenities.

Another way I don't like spending a holiday is travelling somewhere where the place you are going to is the same as where you came from. For example....I live on a farm. Beautiful place, lot's of space and a blessing to have my beloved horse and other animals. I also live close by to a very pretty European-style village with pretty boutiques and shops that a lot of tourists visit. I traveled on train to visit my aunt who also....lives on a farm, with lot's of space and horses and also lives nearby a tourist village. I adore my aunt so it is worth seeing her. But you know, when it is suppose to be a holiday in the summer I do fancy something out of normalcy  So it wasn't the most grand thing ever, and I was there for about a week.

Anywhere that there were a lot of people (no more than 10 or 12 people I know and no more than three I do not know) that I could not leave and be home in a reasonable amount of time. A cruise would be hellish.

I would also hate to spend it with my parents or either one of my two older sisters. (I would be fine with my younger sister because I actually like her.)

A coach tour for me I did it once in India sightseeing. My darling hubby stayed at home he said he didn't want to be stuck on a coach with people he didn't know. So me and my mum in law went. The people touring with us were lovely but having to stay in a group while sightseeing was awful the tour guide treated everyone like children. With don't wander off you might get lost in well signed places and you won't know what the thing's are. In the end we told her it's ok we can read and will meet you at the coach she wasn't impressed. Never again.
