Ive just finished school supply shopping with my kiddos. Normally office supply shopping is my kryptonite. Unfortunately my kids are too big to want any of the fun ones now. :alright: And we didn’t need much because of my previous years if over buying plus being gifted things. I might have enough mechanical pencils to see them then college at this point. :paperbag:

Its our last week of summer unless I postpone it for some reason. We really do like being finished by Memorial Day weekend so theres that motivator…

But first… kitty disco! 🪩

This is my mother’s 19 1/2 year old cat Olivia. They had her tummy groomed so she’s looking awkward but we won’t point that out to her. Chasing light reflections is her obsession. She associates cell phones with making them; hence the 2nd to last picture. Kitten cams are her 2nd favorite thing.

We stopped here for a banana cream pie my mom decided to make but now says she can’t eat. Who am I to question the logic? :dunno::yummy:

What is your favorite kind of pie? Least fav? 🥧

Raspberry and cherry are my favorites. I also love a good rhubarb pie and homemade apple. I don’t think there are any “bad” pies except maybe that vinegar pie I made once. My friend said it was her mom’s recipe and from her days growing up very poor in the Deep South. It was interesting to try and make; but I wont repeat it without a specific purpose.

I don't really have a favorite pie, it kind of depends on what sounds the best at the time. I like just about any pie, much prefer it to cake. The only pie I won't eat is one with raisins in it. There used to be a raisin pie but I don't know if anyone makes that anymore. People used to often put raisins in an apple pie, I don't understand why someone would ruin a perfectly good apple pie with raisins.

My cousin and I have apple-season birthdays and our Grandma was famous for her apple pies. We always requested apple squares instead of birthday cakes. She taught us all to make and roll a good crust but I usually cheat and buy pillsbury. Grams were definitely better but mine are pretty good when I try. I’ve never attempted sheet pan crust though. Its hard to live up to the memory of her pies.

I love raisins in most baked goods; but not in apple pie or in savory salads. My aunt puts grapes in chicken salad but I’ve seen it with both dried cranberries and raisins. :barfgreen: Hard pass!!

My favorite pie, above all others, is custard pie. (This was also my dad's favorite and it became one of the pies that I make for Thanksgiving. This is also the favorite of my daughter-in-law.)

Least favorite would be anything polluted with coconut. I just don't like the mouth-feel of coconut (the flavor is fine, but the texture just skeeves me out).

Lemon Meringue Pie and Key Lime pies are my favorites, but anything with cherries, blueberries, or rhubarb... it's all good!

What don't I like? Um.. hard call, but I think coconut is not a fave. I'm not a fan of pineapple or coconut at all, though if I had to, pineapple would win out between the two :D.

I love pumpkin pie at the holidays but my all time favorite would be 4-berry pie. It has blueberries, raspberries, strawberries and blackberries. DH and I get really upset if they substitute cherries for one of the berries. :nono:

BTW, Carleton did the same thing with the light obsession from my cell phone. Olivia is a lovely senior lady! :lovecat2:

I don't bake (or do any kind of cooking) so favourites are purely ones I've bought. I rarely eat pies these days, but I have very fond memories of the little loganberry pies I ate frequently in my brief student days, and of the steak and kidney pies Mum and I almost lived on in our stay in London in '89. I also like chicken pies, and apple pies (no rhubarb though, it's always so sour).

My favorite is rhubarb, but NOT strawberry rhubarb. 1a is blueberry, while 1b is cherry. Apple is okay, depending on the apples used, but I'm not big on pumpkin. My least favorite is pecan. While I used to like it, it doesn't play well with me any more. The rest I can take or leave, as the mood strikes me.

Agree on the rhubarb front and it does have to be pure rhubarb, as I like the tang. But nothing can beat huckleberry pie. Blue plate special diner apple pie, on a really rainy day with black coffee. Key lime if they don’t mess with it. Whoops I guess I went over my pie limit.

My favorite would be key lime, but I don't think I can say that I have a least favorite, although I'm not real fond of a berry pie with seeds.Hubby's without a doubt is an apple pie straight up,and right along side of that is one with raisins....and mincemeat as well. But see...we were both raised eating those.I love a mincemeat pie as well, and his Mom made a killer sheetpan apple with golden raisins that was to die for.She taught me how to make them for him.And my Grandma made the absolute best pumpkin pie ever (in my opinion anyway)...so dark and spicy...it's how I have always made mine.

In Maryland bakeries and stores sell Dutch Apple Pie. It has raisins and a crumb topping instead of a top crust. My parents used to take several home when they visited from Tennessee.

Ok what’s cranberry pie like? I am intrigued!
The person who gave me the recipe called it Nantucket Cranberry Pie. Super easy to make. Put cranberries and walnuts that were mixed with sugar in a buttered deep dish pie pan. Top with a batter that has butter, sugar, flour, eggs and almond extract. Then bake.

You can find a few different versions if you search, But I have used this one for so many years I can remember the ingredients but not the quantities.

I found a recipe and saved it to Pinterest and sent it to my mom. It looks SO good!! I will have to give it a try before the holidays and see if it needs to be on the menu for Thanksgiving! :yummy:

The first year that I made it my Brother loved it. Since then I've made it every year. For an extra touch you can add whipped topping to the slices.

I LOVE lemon pie, but I don't like meringue. There's one particular diner that sells lemon pie with whipped cream topping instead of meringue, so I always have to stop there when traveling by.

But really I like all pie, who doesn't like pie? Although I haven't tried some unusual ones like shoo-fly pie, so idk if I would like those. Oh and I'm not fond of canned cherries, so cherry pie depends on whether the filling is canned or not.
