I was a political pawn at the age of 4. Long story follows:

The town where we lived when I was 4 had a September 1st cut-off for entering Kindergarten (you had to be 5 by 9/1). My birthday is in December. Well, my father, along with some other parents, was apparently (according to my mother) very vocal about moving the cut-off back 4 months to January 1st. The teachers were very against this change. There were some negotiations, and it was agreed that kids in my age group (turning 5 between 9/1 and 12/31) would be admitted to kindergarten on a trial basis. I was expelled from kindergarten after about 6 weeks. I still remember that I was drawing a picture of an apple when my mother came to the school to take me home. My mother was absolutely convinced that I was kicked out because of my father's outspoken views.

For the remainder of that school year, I attended a nursery (I guess called Pre-K nowadays) school. We moved to a different town during the school year. So, I started kindergarten in our new town at age 5.
