This is probably silly to worry about, but my apartment has smelled like smoke for a good half hour, give or take. There was something burning off the bottom of the (electric) stove and it filled the apartment with a fog. Not enough to set off the alarm, but enough that it wasn’t crystal clear in the air. I opened the balcony door and also the swung the front back and forth and the clarity has come back, but it still smells like smoke. It’s clearing, but very slowly. And unfortunately it’s going to take longest in my back bedroom that gets next to no air flow and just happens to be where my baby hangs out. Can that smoke hurt my cat? Or would it have to be a full-fledged fire? I have no idea how much or how little of that could harm a cat.

Hi, to get rid of smoke smell saturate a towel with slightly diluted white vinegar (like half water half vinegar) and swing it around in the air, should eat all the smell up or at least make it better. Bring the cat into the room with the best air flow and try to keep her/him there for a while.

The only times I took my cat outside were when the smoke alarm was going off or the fog was so bad I didn’t want to be in the house.

Your cat will be ok, I'm not a vet but opening the door to clear the air was a good move. Do you have a fan, or even if you turn on the little fan in the ceiling of the bathroom, or if there's a fan in the hood above the stove, all these things will help to continue to clear the air. Thank you for thinking about your cat! Can you move your cat to a room that's clearer? Hang in there!

She won’t leave my side (I have turkey!) and I have to be in my bedroom right now. It’s clearing. I’m just a nutcase about my cat. I doubt it could hurt unless it was a pretty massive amount. I think??

Since you opened all windows and doors and it is clearing quickly, your cat should be ok. Especially if it wasn’t enough to set off the alarm.

Awesome. I could only open the front door for a moment and the back door is still open because we have a screen. We also turned on the fan above the stove, the living room fan and both bathroom fans. The smell is almost gone completely in the rest of the apartment, but my bedroom is the smallest and it gets no ventilation at all. Like, at all. It’s clearing in there too, just very slowly. And my little girl just won’t stay out. Wondering if I should change her water bowl. Thanks, guys! I always feel like such an annoyance with my concerns because I worry about every little thing when it comes to kitties!

Not to worry about your concerns! It's a long time afterward that I'm posting this, but I wanted to express that I think that's a good idea about the water bowl. Thanks for being such a caring cat person!!
