Those replies were in response to a complaint about sites being made mobile-friendly, so only slightly off topic. Sorry.

And now back to our regular programming: purraise!
Speaking of which, for the moment, anyway, Purraise seems to be private once more. Three cheers !

It's visible on my screen, on my laptop. Haven't tried it on a tablet or smartphone yet.

Still no Purraise or post count showing again this morning.

For the developers: here's what the TCS Forums screen looks like in Firefox, under XP. As of this 72 hours ago, Redmond reported 250 million users worldwide still using XP (with several very good reasons).

Aren't most of them businesses that don't want to pay for the Windows 10 license?

We couldn't file last year's German tax return using Vista. Our bank just sent a notice that Windows 7 won't be accepted for online banking services after June 30.

Is that one single long image, e.g. is that the mobile version w/ FF?! What is your browser width and/or device?

Nope; most of them are just regular people who won't downgrade to windows 7 and "above." They're people just like you and me, who have 100mb cable connexions, and hence who don't run ad blockers the way most SmartPhone users do. Read the Wall Street Journal article in January about websites losing money because they began catering to SmartPhone users. Advertisers no longer make their choices based upon raw metric data because they know that phone users run ad blockers to reduce their data usage, while the old school doesn't have those problems of Wifi UL/DL times and data restrictions. One notable (and rather well-heeled) company's ad sourcing center (third party) no longer even counts phone users as part of the equasion, since they know up front that phone users will never see their ads - and let's face it... there's no one here who doesn't understand that the new platform is intended to target SpartPhone users, since one of the developers said that expressly.

Most of those, "tablet/mobile users," who join TCS won't really be part of the equasion in the eyes of modern, savvy advertisers who know already that ad blockers defeat the purpose of advertising. It will still be the dinosaurs on their desktops with high-speed connexions which don't require them to run ad blockers who'll drive advertising dollars to the site, and if the new features which are, "geared more toward tablet/mobile users," don't work for them, they won't stick around.

As others have already said, the site looks positively stark and uninviting to many users. The pages are nothing more than plain text, the way the Usenet NewsGroups were in the 1980s, and the mouseover features don't appear to be working at all in several formats. Even folks who paint all their rooms stark white have a painting of their cat hanging somewhere to ease the Woody Allen Interiors starkness, no?

That's the screenshot from top to bottom in Firefox under Win XP SPII, SysRqed from the visual on a 25 inch CRT - exactly the same as it will be seen by 250,000,000 other folks worldwide. Browser width has no meaning; the Viewport EQ is set 1:1 by the site - it "self-adjusts" for each user's platform so there's no horizontal scrollbar.

The developer is still working on features, so the final appearance of the site and the options people will have are something to look forward to; right now the focus has been on allowing people with cat emergencies to post threads as well as finding and fixing bugs. It hasn't even been a week, so it's far too early to pass judgment. This migration has been a lot smoother than the last one in 2011.

The forum template seems to use what's called responsive, or sometimes it's called "liquid", design. It's actually a great idea as the browser screen can be resized and many design elements can gracefully remain and still show up no matter the window size of the visitor. However, if the designer needs important items on a site's web page to remain no matter the screen size, then this is the area to look for issues in code to try to arrange for that.

In the left hand side's Member profile box, everything below the Title banner disappears when the browser window is made small enough to portray a smaller mobile device. So, all the profile data below the Member's Title colored banner disappears on mobiles (to wit, the post count, the Purraise count, location data if provided by the member, when the member joined, all that stuff).

I don't have a laptop (I have a desktop iMac), but when I stretch my browser window from the skinny mobile size outward, the proper Member profile box with its associated post count and Purraise count, &C, don't show up until the browser window width hits 768. So at sizes 240, 320, 480... you lose the Member info (post and purraise counts, join date, etc) -- and just the image, member name and member title remain.

(I'm just trying to give a little info... hope that's ok)
