She is 5 years old and never had any FIV symptoms until a few weeks ago when she developed an abscess in her mouth. She stopped eating because of pain, she was put on pain meds and antibiotics. She still wouldn’t eat anything so she was given an appetite stimulant, but had to be taken off after a week or so due to an allergy. Still having trouble getting her back on a good eating schedule and I am totally lost! She used to love treats and wet food, she won’t go near them now. I’ve caught her eating dry food only a couple times. The only thing I’ve been able to get her to eat is chicken/turkey baby food. She is so underweight, and I’ve caught her eating litter from the box which she’s never done. Any help would be great, I hate seeing her so skinny!

This thread has great tips: Any Good Tips To Get Your Cats To Eat? Share Them Here!

I think you should change the type of litter to avoid her eating it. That's concerning. I've heard that pica can be a symptom of FIV, something to discuss with the vet. I'm not too educated on FIV but maybe ask for something for nausea which could help increase her appetite.

Cats often like the cheap stuff, Fancy Feast and Sheba have gotten my cat through when she wouldn't touch most foods. It can help to microwave to warm it to prey temperature and make it smellier. If she likes dry food, definitely run with that. It's the only thing one of my cats will eat right now.
