He did not fall. What is not seen is him gripping the covers with two of his paws. One of his back paws had the claws dug in and was supporting him while one of the front paws was gripping the cover also.
I admire subconscious survival techniques.;)
Also I shouldn't compare to my clumsy oaf.

I was expecting him to fall when I saw him. He was sound asleep (snoring) and when I looked that is when I discovered the claw grips. I was very surprised on two things. One was the claws, the other was he stayed asleep and did not wake up when I came near him and looked. He only woke up when I touched him and that only caused him to open an eye while yawning.
