Hi! My 1yo persian cat gave birth to four kittens three days ago. Sadly, all of them didn’t make it. She’s all healthy now—drinking and eating well. Her stool and urine are good, too. However, today my mom found brick-red colored blood discharge like the pic below. My vet already told me that bloody discharge that appear as spotting is normal as long as it’s not an active bleeding. However, is that color still normal? Until when will it appear and what colors are considered dangerous? This is my cat’s first pregnancy (and will be last, as she will be spayed soon) and I just want to make sure she stays healthy always. Thank you in advance! :)

Hi! Welcome!!

Active bleeding, ie; where it would be constant, of any color would be a concern.

It appears normal. Cats spot blood for 7-10 days after giving birth while the uterus heals - red at first, then turning to pink and then brown.

I’m sorry all kittens did not survive. Persian births can be difficult due to the shape of the head.

Your mother cat can be spayed when her surviving kittens are 8 weeks old.
