My luck just gets worse
Poppy is a 23 month old tortie British shorthair.
I took her tonthe to the vets today because she was wheezy

She had bloods and a scan
She had a temperature and lost 1kilo in weight, severely jaundiced
Vet says she has liver disease
Blods and scab was inconclusive, so they have sent if bloods to a specialist fir more information.

Her red blood cells are low and white ones extreme high
No fliud in liver
She's a bacterial infection. She is eating stool pees normal
She's lethargic and won't play
Vet gave he antibiotics and steroids
She thinks it might be a congenital liver defect from birth like a shunt, or hepatitis
Said outlook is poor
She's 23 month!!
I'm. To take her back in 2 weeks
Why does this keep happening to me!
Het eyes ears feet bright yellow
I. Thought it was cat flu

It's not

I have to use the psda vets as I can't afford to pay private one
The vet will ring me on Monday with results from the lab
I hope good news.. I certainly need some
She's on antibiotics and steroids
I dudbt know they treated liver disease
Or how a young cat even got jaundice

She's bright enough, she is eating.. Not huge amount. But is eating.. She's had some fresh chicken
Poo and pees normal. No yellow colour
I heard that you can give vitamin b complex powder to cats with liver problems olso yeast and milk thistle capsules as its full of vit b that helps liver
Has anyone heard of that?

Oh Poppy is so sweet!!!! 💖 I am so glad to hear you have found a vet to fit into your budget ❤ most important!!

I am not vet, but our boy Oscar (who has passed) ended up getting fatty liver from not eating. It sounds like Poppy has liver issues for other reasons tho. Very glad to hear eating is still happening and proper toileting! We did give Oscar milk thistle and I truly believed that was the turning point in getting his liver issues under control. He had a lot going on at the end. We were still in triage phase when he passed, suspected lymphoma, but never confirmed. I will say tho, his liver was fine at the end. It is worth bringing up the milk thistle to your vet when they call. Personally, I would never start something without clearing with a doctor first though. Please keep us posted ✨️

Denamarin is great, ask your dvm if that will help. It saved Sybils life when she had jaundice.

I've not heard of denamarin

I've heard great things about milk thistle
Vet ringing Monday
This had come out of the blue
She's an indoor cat too
I. Just don't understand where the jaundice has Come from
She does sound a little congested. Vet says upper respiratory infection
She's still yellow
She is eating but not much
No vomiting
It's a real worry
I can't take anymore bad luck
I've recently lost 3 cats too in 5
weeks

Oh my goodness C Coralcup 🥺😢💔 I am heartbroken to hear of so much loss in such a short time.

I forgot until it was mentioned, but Oscar also was put on denamarin. There was a shortage around that time and he only had it for a week, but that is when I researched and found milk thistle, vet agreed to use it because we couldn't get more denamarin. I don't think he was on it long enough to judge how it worked. But I bet it did help! Both solid options.

Keep lil Poppy eating!! At this point, ANYTHING will do! Baby food has always been a life saver and I always have a few jars on hand. Be very careful and look at the ingredients tho! Gerber has meats that only have added water and cornstarch, Beechnut is better, typically just meat and water, but my babies never went for it. I think mainly cause they started on Gerber, so maybe try starting on Beechnut? I jar is usually about the same calories as a 3oz Fancy Feast. Try it as a topper first vs a meal cause it is not balanced for a kitty body, but if needed, can suffice for a very short term meal option in emergencies.

Just read ingredients because some contain onions and or garlic.

I remember you posting about your other cats, I am so sorry, how heartbreaking and traumatic that is💔

I hope she will be ok. I would definitely try denamarin. Sybil was severely jaundice her eye whites were dark yellow. Within a few days they started to get better. I told one of her docs and he thought no at first but by day 4-5 or so she was back to normal and bilirubin levels were down dramatically. She was also put on ursodiol another antioxidant for her liver then which was rx and was compounded. Denamarin is otc for cats and dogs and is the same ingredient in a similar antioxidant for people I believe.

I don't think they figured out why it happened really, but she was 17.5 or so and she had crf and very advanced hcm and congestive heart failure. That was when her bilirubin became elevated. Then they kept her on those meds. She did pass after 4-5 months with a saddle thrombus from the hcm etc.💔 I still miss her so much. She is my profile pic.

I looked it up and it says congestion from heart failure can cause it but I can't remember what they said about it and if it was that.

Here is a link with information about different causes of jaundice-
