I understand and I know we can't help but to feel bad but it really is in their best interest just keep that in your head.. you are helping him. Let that be in your head over and over as you are medicating him. Hopefully they can compound it for you.
Keep your head up, stay positive, and just know you are helping him. He will be ok it isn't going to hurt him. It is going to help him.

I will go to the vet just on my own, so not too stress him with yet another visit and I will ask for a different form...

Some of what you are seeing is typical cat reactions to medication. Cats are not Labrador retrievers who gladly take the Pill Pocket with the medication inside and think that it is a treat.

He could not eat any pill, as he cannot eat any harder food...

If it’s the liquid Gabapentin, I have tasted it before and it was disgusting and made me salivate and drool for hours. It is horrible. Please ask your vet for the capsules. They come in 100mg capsules. You can sprinkle it on his food or give as a capsule.

I have appointment with my local vet on Friday, so I will talk to her about other options, either compounded or tablet form...
I will send email to my consultant vet, he usually answers quickly...

I am also unsure about going for a dental appointment, as this is two hours drive one way, then anasthetic and assessments and treatment...
If they are not going to tell me anything I already know, I don't want to expose him to the trauma of this...I will check this with my consultant vet...

My local vet called me yesterday! We ordered flavoured gabapentin...
He is getting more and more clever with his attempts to get out of the towel (the way I give him his meds).
He also pays me back through avoiding me, not engaging for hours...

If this is medication for his life, I wonder if he will eventually get used to this routine...at the moment it is a bit of fight...

I put Chelsea in a purrito indefinitely when she has SCL. No, she never liked it, but I do think that she got used to it and came to understand that nothing worse was following. Give the flavored gabapentin a chance and just concentrate on one day at a time with the meds.

I am still unsure what causes the problem with eating, namely food falling out of his mouth...
It all started after a deep dental cleaning...which could suggest either tongue being "injured" during intubation (?), or some nerve exposed in his teeth...
Apparently, they did not see any signs of teeth resorption in the CT scan...the vet at the animal hospital checked his teeth as well...
So, it may be tongue, some type of nerve damage (?)

I have a dental appointment scheduled in two weeks (long journey)...
I am unsure if this is a dental problem? I would like to prevent his further traumatisation...but if this is definitely necessary we will go...

He wants to eat everything, but cannot process something like cooked chicken, tuna or harder treats ..
He approaches them normally,managed to get it to his mouth and then it falls out...if he manages to move it around towards the end of his mouth, he then can swallow it...
So it seems like a tongue rather than his teeth...so neurological rather than dental...
It does not look that he spits food out because of pain, but he cannot move it around as in a normal eating process...

I don't want to go for a dental appointment that will include general anaesthetic, just to confirm what we already know...
But, they may find something else, unsure what ...???

What makes you think it is neurological? Like I guess what I'm asking is what would have happened to make him all of a sudden have a neurological issue? I've been thinking of things it could be and I'm stumped.. I wish I had some advice for you and I feel bad it's been going on so long.

FOPS is neurological disorder. And he has been treated for this with gabapentin.

Oh ok when I read neurological I was thinking you were talking about something like a symptom from a brain injury.
I understand now. Thank you for telling me. I hope you can get him situated asap he has been going through this king enough and you are doing everything in your power to help him. I have been trying for a long time to try to figure out what might be causing his issues but I don't know what it could be if it is not FOPS

This is the reason why I hesitate with going for a dental appointment (long journey), as if this is fops and nothing dental, the journey would be pointless...I want to decrease a level of any additional stress...
But,
If this is dental and can be fixed...???

Or perhaps it cannot be fixed, full stop...???

There was no mass under his tongue at his last visit three weeks ago...

It was actually my idea that if could be dental, my vet opted for neurological problems...
I am in two minds, as the journey is two hours one way + additional stress + anasthetic...

I will write to my vet and see what he thinks...

Can you call the dentist and explain what is going on? It is a possibility that they will not talk to you without having seen your cat, but if they will you can briefly explain what has happened and ask them if they feel that they could be able to diagnose or if they feel that this is out of their specialty. Tell them about his diagnosis so far. The practice of dentistry includes a number of specialties which this dentist might be able to provide.

I know that this is like a roll of the dice and is not that helpful.

You are thinking that despite the FOPS that it is not really pain, but some kind of inability to move the tongue, almost like he has novocaine (which he does not) in his tongue?
