Can someone explain to me what is this foam (type of vomit) type response after giving liquid medicine and how to prevent it. He was very distressed and this has not happened before...

Is it the gabapentin?
A lot of cats foam at the mouth with that liquid medicine..
Did he throw up or just get foamy

No, this is omeprasole...
We have chicken flavoured gabapentin...

No, liquid form. He is very bad with tablets, therefore we giving him liquid to make sure that he definitely takes it

This is his first day of stopping buprenorphine after taking for two weeks, so maybe he is a bit unbalanced. Was a bit lethargic today...

I don't know if omeprasole is a bitter medication. If so that could cause the foaming at the mouth.
Cats that get the regular liquid gabapentin tend to foam at the mouth for a while after taking the medication. That's why I asked if it was that one.. but I don't know the taste of the omeprasole..

It seems that omeprasole has a much worse taste, it smells awful..

Around two weeks...

My vet wants him to be on it for a longer time, as a reflux type contributes to his oral lesions and ulceration...
Since on omeprasole, he restarted eating better...

He is also on metacam long term, but in the morning

I gave him a treat and he was ok straight after...

I would just call the vet and let them know that since he has been on it this is the first time that happened. He is a bit low today and I wonder if he may be going through some withdrawal from buprenorphine...
Also, it is extremely hot, it has an additional impact on him...

How long was he on the buprenorphine? And how long has he been without it now?

It is his second day without it...he was on it for two weeks...

Just spoke to the vet and she said that I could get back to a lower dose if necessary...
Also, I need to observe if his lethargic response may relate to hiding some pain ..
He is generally very sensitive to meds and perhaps needs tapering rather than stopping. He was only on 0.15ml of it

With omeprasole, she said it is most likely response to the taste of it, they ordered for me a flavoured form of it...
She suggested making a chicken stock from the chicken cube and dilute omeprasole in it as this will take the taste away...

She also suggested making an omeprasole ball from a crushed tablet and bit of butter and freeze it... unfortunately I do not have a freezer! But this is a great idea...

Yea he may need tapered off of the buprenorphine. I'm glad that the vet also thought it was due to the taste and they are going to get it compounded for you.

Buprenorphine is in a liquid form, so it is just a matter of getting less of it...also she suggested a possibility of once a day for a moment...

There are a quite few factors here that are difficult to judge properly, as additionally it is extremely hot, so he may be responding to the heat as well...And we still do not know if he may be back in pain...
She also said that I may have accidentally touched a sore area of his mouth with the syringe which could have triggered foaming as a response ..

I will give him buprenorphine in evening, instead of 0.15, I will give him 0.10ml...
This may also be helpful with omeprasole (in one hour after this) as it makes him calmer...

Yes, still lots of saliva but not as bad as yesterday...
