This is a poem I wrote a few years ago:

The wind is cold
My cat is warm
He is asleep
Upon my arm
My shoulder aches
My hand is numb
Letting him sleep
Is pretty dumb

Gata, you are definantly in touch with your love of nature and it shows. Just wonderful. By all means, please, share more. I too am self concious of my writing, but it helps to hear if it's liked or not.

Alex, that was just cute. Funny. I smiled reading it. MORE. MORE. MORE.

These three short poems were inspired by Napoleon.

1
I don't mind if he sheds on my sweater.
Cat hair always makes poetry better.

2 (a haiku)
My cat contemplates
the tiny mote that contains
a vast universe.

3
I bought you balls,
fur mice, and treats;
instead you played
with the receipts.

Poetry is an emotional emetic
written by a hopeless heretic
and called unaesthetic
by a bitter ascetic.

Your eyes
are not
the only
eyes that
see me.
I look
at myself
with my
own eyes,
and I
know that
what you
see is
not the
real me.
You see
what you
want to,
what you
need to,
not the
soul who
looks back
at you.

I watch you slink
so self-important
as I think thoughts
both vile and mordant
your world is small
your cares are few
my dearest wish
is to be like you
as my thoughts darken
again and again
you are my only
light, my friend

You're all too kind.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings, 3lk, but Miss Nell isn't preggers. She's just fat!

BTW, is it possible for spayed females to get "sympathy pains" (or something
) when around a nursing mom? Shortly after my foster cat, Nora, and her 4 kittens came, Nell's boobs began getting bigger. I thought it was just my imagination at first, but now I'm almost sure.

I'm praying for Michele and her missing little one. Hope they are back together soon.

Emerald eyes glow under the bed
My nose to yours
I bump my head

You won't come out
The vet awaits
This contest is a rout

Mice are quiet.
Mice are shunned
because they are small
and silent.
I was a mouse.
I changed.
Now I am disliked
and feared
because I have roared.
I could go back
to being a mouse.
However,
I think I won't.
I like roaring.
And there are so many people
who should be roared at.

I bought some incense
and named it Frank.
I held up a teller
in a cloud bank.
Cat complain,
I'm feline fine.
I've found myself
and lost my mind.

Thanks Catarina!

I might try publishing someday, but right now I just couldn't deal with rejection. I'm kind of a :chicken: .

Thanks again Cat.

I feel kind of embarrassed to say that I don't really read that many modern poets. I'm more into Emily Dickinson, Rumi, and others long-dead.

I know I'll submit my stuff eventually, but I have to get it organized first.
Although I have some stuff close at hand, I have been really careless with most of my writings. Several times when I was severely depressed and self-hating, I have gone through my files and thrown out whatever I could find. I truly regret that. With 20-20 hindsight I realize that the stuff I considered junk at that time was probably some of my best work.
I cling to the hope that I might remember most of the poems and stories I tossed out, someday. I found the draft fragments of a few and was able to reconstruct them. I guess being disorganized can be a good thing at times.

Ahhhhhh....sounds like the stuff I do!!! My problem also lies in that I'm a musician, artist, writer, poet, but master of none! So, I can truly relate to that...At least we've both realized that the key is consistancy and hindsight is 20/20...kinda makes me ill
