Just an update and some more videos. Last night she did not roam at all again. I even put out some treats she likes just outside her bedroom door but to no avail. No problem. I am patient :)

I fully changed out the litter box today and we are now 1/2 and 1/2 potting soil and litter. She is also eating her food with the de-wormer in it like it's not even there!

On impulse, I bought a toy,...a Faux Grass topped box with rattle balls inside it. She was playing with a marble when she realized the new "item" in her room. I loved this video here: New Grass Box. The first one is when she first realized it was there!

I also picked up this Catnip toy that my girl Pepper used to love. It is called "Hooked on Catnip" and made in Maine USA. I thought she was going to rip it to shreds!!! There are a couple of videos of her also with that new toy. I hope you enjoy watching them as much as I did!

So cute- Dinah has got the life!
Love the videos, thoroughly enjoy seeing her so relaxed and playing

Indy sure doesn't react like that to catnip or even silvervine. Luckily she is amused by anything that moves though. But i bought these 10 dollar fresh silvervine sticks from the local farmers market (menontie who makes cat toys) and she totaly ignored them.

Kabuto likes them though luckily. Apperently the raction to catnip and silvervine is inherited. Indy didn't get the gene.

She loves her "twitter birds" though they make a chirp noise when batted or thrown.

So far as I read your thread, Dinah is quite confident and have already settled down. As for her to go out of the room which she did on a few occasion, she knows what's outside the room but she's just taking her time to come out more. As she is comfortable now in her room, that is mist important.

Good that she's taking the change of litter and having the dewormer without problems.

Regarding the small ball she's playing with, can I suggest that you change it to a bigger one? The small one looks risky and dangerous as she may swallow it. Get a ball that's small but won't fit her mouth. I'm concern for her safety.

My cats like pompoms. You can make them with wool from the discount store worsted weight works best

Take a peice of wool and measure it at about 2 to 3 arms length then wrap it around the middle, ring and index fingers of your non dominant hand loose enough to still pull the wound thread off then tie a small peice of wool around the center and cut either side then fluff.

This video explains it better than i did. But pompoms made this way are big enough to not be swallowed whole but squishy enough for kitty to cary.

I'd be afraid of pom poms if Sami got hold of it- the other 4would be fine but my Sami would be trying to take it apart and he has choked on string type things as he tries to swallow whatever he's chewing,he's like a little dog that one..... I actually cut the tails off mice toys with those string tails

After you trim the pom poms they are individual strands tied together,is that right?

I have finally torn myself away from my own new kitten chaos long enough to read Dinah's story. So glad you got your cute kitty in the house and she's getting all her stuff fixed up!! Adorable name btw!

Also that earlier photo someone posted of putting a paper bag over the trap made me cackle, their love of bags got them caught :insertevillaugh:

Yes they are but i think depending on how long you make them they should just pass through or be puked back up if accidently eaten.

Like any toy, thet should be supervised while playing with it and take it away if it starts falling appart.

Dinah is in the house! I am nauseous, and still stressed so I can only imagine how Dinah feels. She is under or behind the couch I am laying on as I write this post. It did not work out to "steer" her towards her bedroom.

After I closed the door gently with the 30ft jake sticks, she looked for a way out at the door, then jumped up and clawed at the door window and hung on the window for a minute. Then jumped down and went under a baseboard. Then i went upstairs and she came out after a few minutes and went behind the couch.
Thank you guys again for your support. She is safe now and we can begin our journey!

Greg
That is awesome Greg!!!!!!!!!!! maybe her safe room is the house lol .. you will do good just be kind to yourself through the process. and things will work out. Glad she is home :heartshape::heartshape::heartshape::heartshape::hyper::hyper:

They are really cute......I like them alot is why I asked

I just can't trust Sami,Ive had to pull to many things out of his mouth /throat ,anything that needs my supervision has to be put away with lock and key.Theres not a latch ,,knob or lever Sami cannot open- thank goodness he's not polydactl or he'd figure out how to use a key!lol Sami is like having a toddler loose 24/7( Beware the Bengal, lol)❤

I think Dinah would have a ball with a big ole pom pom she could bunny kick

Thanks for all the tips folks. I appreciate it. Dinah roamed the house a little last night. But this morning I may have caught her in between her roaming as I got out of bed. She was behind the living room couch again! I opened the curtains and spooked her (did not know she was there) and she scooted down the hall, past her room, and into my bedroom!

She is under my bed now. This may be because I disturbed her yesterday as I put a cat-bed on the floor under her bed. Prolly not the best move on my part. It may be that she feels that her safe spot is now not so safe?

Hopeful she will go back in her own room later when I leave the house. It sure is an adventure in Dinah-Land!

She will see that she can be out of her room and nothing bad happened to her. Even though she was scared, she protected herself by hiding and it all turned out well! She will get back to her room. Or maybe when you are gone she will explore more :).

You were right. Back in her room she went. Perhaps a turning point? Maybe she feels somewhat safer now.

We are expecting 10in or more of snow later and into tomorrow. This is a big reason why I took her in. Winters are unpredictable here. Last year, if we got 10in all winter, it was a lot. This year is supposed to be not as cold, but with a lot if snow.

It will be something to see when she sees the snow fall. She may not have seen any snow yet in her young life!!

Don’t worry that much. It’s natural for her to do that. She’ll get over it. In the mean time, give her lots of assurance and stay with her and play with her.

This won’t be her first time getting spooked while out exploring the house and good that she knows how retreat to her room and that’s why it’s good to keep the safe room for her.

Good practice will be if you don’t see her, call her out first before you do something just like drawing the curtain and finds out that she’s under the couch.

So, as the snow begins to fly here, I am reminded of the situation Dinah would have been in tomorrow morning. Stuck in the garage she called her home, (or the stack of wooden pallets on my neighbors property on my other side), the owner will be starting the snowblower housed in the garage (with no back wall and a tarp for a roof) in the morning. I looked for her hiding spot in the garage one day last month but there were hardly any places in there to hide in! Most likely, she would have been scared out into the weather again!

This past week has been pretty cold at night as well and today had a bone chilling feel as this weather system is approaching. I have NO DOUGHT in my mind that I did the right thing bringing this little girl into my home.

She is sleeping now, warm and safe in her bedroom with a belly full of food. This makes me feel so good. I will sleep well tonight knowing that she is safe. Then I will get up and have to shovel all that snow in the morning 🥶

We will be plummetting starting tomorrow with the worst in a week. Very glad Dinah is safe with you. Although my Waffles came from a shelter as a stray, he was very similar to where Dinah is now. You are wonderul!
Thank you for those kind words!

Hi folks. Just a quick update. Not much new to report except that it appears the de-wormer medicine is beginning to work. We are about the halfway point on this first treatment.

We got about 1 foot of heavy snow with that storm and now it is warming up and rain is expected. Floods are forecast. My backyard looks like a pond again :ohwell:. Dinah may have "disappeared" during this mayhem if I did not act!

I set up a new Cat-Cave yesterday on her bed. She hasn't used it yet. We will see. More toys, Catnip, and new litter mats are on the way from Chewey.com too.
