So, I saw something in this Cat. That's right. I saw something in this Cat that compelled me to try to bring her into my life. She also tried to bring herself into my life. I really believe this. Just look at my profile pic. That is when Dynah was laying outside my front door, in the cold, and looking in my house, trying to get warm.
Yea, Dynah has chosen you out of the others and that's why that look on her face that says, 'take me in Hooman' (in other words, 'Take me to your leader', which is you). It is strange and amazing how the cats match themselves to hoomans.

Once again, thank you for taking her in and working slowly with her to getting things done at her own time. I'm sure this will be a very beautiful relationship for both of you.

Hi Gregg- Reminiscing about " love at first sight" ?Yep,something about her is what got you hook, line and sinker and I have no doubt Dynah was well aware of you long before she made her presence known to you.She thought" hmmmm- something about that human😻

Glad you got that tooth taken care of,hard to really think about much else when your mouth is throbbing constantly

I suppose it's time to get serious now but the good thing is that Dynah appears to be very healthy, you have addressed the basics( parasites) and she is not around any other animals to be subject to or pose any health risks to others so there has been no urgency to seek medical attention- however,,we want to keep it that way!

I just had an urgent situation with Timmy where I could not delay taking him to the Vet- still not cooperative with being lifted off the ground, still not carrier trained but a " must do"

Gregg,to my pleasant surprise loading him into the carrier was no big deal- he had a very difficult ,long day at the Vets office and I expected a few days to get over the frightening experience once he returned home and perhaps a temporary set back- nope, once back in his familiar, safe territory he stood to himself and slept peacefully about 24hrs,still feeling drowsy from sedation . Next day he picked up where we left off and he was himself

Funny thing, after a couple of days I moved the carrier and guess who walked in by himself to check it out,? Lol

Dynah is like Timmy and not so food motivated but she's always loved her toys, she enjoys when you roll the little balls and she engages so roll them to the carrier, throw her favorites in there and familiarize her even more so the carrier is not a scarey thing....She should be used to you moving it from here to there so moving it doesn't signal thst something is up ...These things all pay off in the long run so the carrier is not associated with anything unpleasant

So even if you need to just suit up and get her loaded when you return home she will not make the connection and you just continue to work on " carrier friendly" routines

Thank you Kwik, for sharing this with me. It will act as a reminder when the time comes (soon) that it wont be as bad as I think.

Thanks again for sharing your story about Timmy with me!

Dinah Doll Dinah Doll , Gregg, this sounds like how I got Waffles. I just felt something in the vist to the shelter, seeing him in his shelter cubby, his face and look. The visit in the room he froze, tucked up, wouldn't look at me, had wounds, and I took him home and it's been a growing of that feeling (mine that is that he was the one) ever since. It's been 8 years now. I can't pick him up still, but he's grateful, I can tell.

UPDATE: Dynah is at the Vets!

It was an epic battle this morning let me tell you. I knew it would be. Knowing this Cat for over 5 months now, I knew what I had to do. There would be no throwing blankets on her to "burrito" her, or corralling her into the carrier. This would be suiting up and grabbing her and putting her into the carrier.

I got up, had my 2 cups of coffee and fed her as usual. Then I had my breakfast and after, I laid out some bandages in the bathroom because I knew I would need them. Then I suited up,.. A heavy Carthart jacket and heavy leather gloves with thick lining. I walked in the Cat Tree room where she was sitting in. I then calmly said OK Dynah, time to go to the vets and the battle began. I think it took at least 3 minutes before I was able to finally grab and hold her to get her in the carrier and, as I was getting her in it, she still was trying to get out of it before I could lock it tight from the outside. I laid on the floor for a good 3-4 minutes out of breath and totally spent. But I did it!

Next, I got up and immediately put the blanket I had ready, and covered the carrier with it. I administered first aid to myself ( 4 large bandages total) as she did manage to get her claws though the thick gloves but I do not think she got her teeth through them. What a super strong, fast and agile Cat she is! It took every bit of strength that I had to get her in the carrier and I almost gave up at some point, but I was determined. It is now mostly a blur looking back.

She did not make a sound after that and kept silent through the less than 10 minute trip to the vets, during check-in and, while I was leaving. (I was talking calmly to her after I placed the blanket over the carrier and during the trip to the vets).

So Dynah will be at the vets at least a couple of days (they are short staffed and booked even though they knew that I was going to make this attempt this morning). I am having them do everything. All shots needed, full examination, roundworm treatment, bath, claws trimmed, microchip, and anything else they deem should be done.

I have warned them many times about her demeaner. She just does not want to be touched AT ALL so, sedation is a must.

I will let you all know how things go of course, and I am hoping that she can come back home soon and with a full bill of good health.

Thanks for reading folks!

Congrats!! Glad it’s a one and done type deal. They should really make the perfect gloves for cat owners. Needs to be bite proof, extend up the arms, but not so thick that you can’t use your fingers. It’ll be such a relief I bet when you’re both home.

Hope she has a clean bill of health and also be well behaved a the vets.

Take care of your scratches. Usually when I'm scratched by my boy, I'll use IPA to clean it and I have Colloidal Silver meant for my boy (for pets), I'll spray it over the scratches. It heals pretty fast as compared to normal medications.

:woo::banana2::cheerleader::rock:Great news!!!!

Well done Greg- when she comes home you can rest easy and she'll quickly get over it,they all do....a very necessary part of being a responsible pet parent ❤

Don't use peroxide- soapy water to cleanse ,I keep scrubbing a couple of days so it doesn't seal in that bacteria and just keep a poly or neosporin ointment on it👍

TY Margo. Yea..I have arthritis pretty bad in my hands / fingers so it is difficult grasping things to begin with. The gloves I used were really tough but she still got through them in a couple of spots. Prolly should have bought a new pair anyway!

EDIT...thanks for that link. I will have to get a pair of those gloves!

Yes and Thank You! Going to get some more things today. I used peroxide and neosporin right away and changed the bandages 3x yesterday.

Thanks! You are right. I will feel better when she is back in her home. It did have to be done, no question.

I always used peroxide to initially "clean out" wounds. Just a habitual thing I guess. Then wash with anti-bacterial soap and neosporin and cover. I do this when the bandages get wet or I feel the need to change them, usually 3-4X a day depending on the severity of the wound(s).

I understand ,the only time I really ever had problems with cat scratches is when they close up too fast or I was too busy working with animals to stop and address my wounds right away- that cat scratch fever is nasty especially when the hand blows up like a balloon ( or yer head!!!lol) But I'll take scratches over bites any day

Just imagine if you hadn't gloved up😱

I'm so glad you got her there and that's done with,no doubt you are elated❤

I was a nurse for 42 years, peroxide is not good. It destroys healthy skin cells on open wounds. It's ingrained in most everyone's mind, though, as good for wounds. Betadine does the same thing on wounds. As said, soap and water is best first. Kwik Kwik I believe mentioned silver for wounds, an ointment, that is excellent if you can find it at a drugstore or grocery store. Bacitracin is better than Neosporin. But both work.

Hugs and more hugs to you! I feel your feelings, laying on the floor and deep breathing. She is a spunky fighter! The first time I had to do this with Waffles I was shaking and in tears. He yowls in the most painful way, too.
You are a GREAT pet owner and doing the right thing!

Thanks pearl99! I spoke with vets office tonight and they prolly wont be able to get to Dynah until Thursday :(. But she is in her own kennel with a box to hide in and they said that she is eating. I know she will be ok as she is a strong girl. I just wish that they could get to her tomorrow. Oh, and I told them that I will be checking for a status again tomorrow afternoon. I know they are short staffed, and busy but I never had to wait this long :(

I will keep you all posted.

Just checking in to see if there are any updates on Dinah?
Thank you fluffpaws!

Yes guys,..I picked up Dynah late this afternoon! She is doing very well considering her 3 1/2 days at the vets.

She went right to her "safe" spot under her bed when I opened the carrier door.

AMAZINGLY, she came out 10 minutes later,..peeked at me in the living room,...then went down the hall to her Cattree,...jumped up and made sure everything was right....then a thunderstorm came in...went back to hiding spot.

Then 20 minutes later, back into cattree and in her favorite cubbyhole and is still there sleeping!!

What an Amazing Cat huh? I thought she would be hiding until i retired for the night.

I will post more of her results from vets tomorrow which are very good indeed. She did better than me during this whole time.
Thanks guys! Have a good evening! I need to sleep!!!
