Dude, where's your paper bag?
What a nice picture.Sorry I can't find one of just me and a cat. This was taken at a show. I am holding the cat, Jack. The other lady is a judge.View attachment 199437
posiepurrs - Lynda, that's a fabulous shot of you, Jack and Pam Bassett together!Sorry I can't find one of just me and a cat. This was taken at a show. I am holding the cat, Jack. The other lady is a judge.View attachment 199437
donnae - He also won Best Groomed at that same Dixieland Show that season. Maybe we can get Lynda to tell the story about Jack being afraid of the bathtub in the hotel room, and her having groomed him in the tiny hotel sink. What a nice picture.
Your Jack is so big and fluffy!! OMG!!
foxxycat - Yep - the CFA, TICA and FIFe shows are utterly astounding; it's almost difficult to believe cats actually look like that, until you're there in person. Imagine competing in one of the Big Four categories (Maine Coon, Ragdoll, Siamese and Persians), against - literally - thousands of other cats who are equally well-groomed and equally faultless. Making even a single Final, and earning a rosette is an enormous accomplishment.Jack is beautiful..i can't imagine bathing a cat in the tiny sink..Honeybee got bathed in the kitchen sink for her one and only cat show..there were TONS of gorgeous kitties at the cat show!!
Show cats are socialised differently than our cats, foxxycat - they're picked up, held in the air and examined, and trained and handled the just way judges train and handle them. Watch Camie here, with one of the "roughest" CFA judges - Russ Webb:Honeybee was very scared-she normally likes people but after that=she prefers mom and dad and a few people..she's not as adventurous anymore...poor Bee Kitty! What did I do to her?!!
I start conditioning them for showing when they are tiny. After first shots, I take them everywhere I can to get them used to strange noises, smells, and people. We also play show. I set up a show cage, and a scratching post to simulate the judging table. We practice taking the kitten out of the cage the way a judge does, I handle the kitten like a judge. then put it back in the cage.Show cats are socialized differently than our cats,
You didn't hijack the thread - I did, and I apologise for that. Jack is just so perfect that it's hard not to praise him.I start conditioning them for showing when they are tiny. Missy would eat the bones too.Show cats are socialised differently than our cats, foxxycat - they're picked up, held in the air and examined, and trained and handled the just way judges train and handle them. Watch Camie here, with one of the "roughest" CFA judges - Russ Webb:
Despite the fact that she's being spun 'round at high speed, and handled quickly and heavily, she's the epitome of calm. If Russ handled Moo Shu this way, she'd simply eat him and spit out the bones.

mama africa - I laughed so hard at this that ten cats just scattered, and Moo Shu opened one eye to look at me.M

I'm sure Moo Shu regrets not having eaten the bonesmama africa - I laughed so hard at this that ten cats just scattered, and Moo Shu opened one eye to look at me.
