This petfood recall seems to be neverending. Now pets in those countries mentioned may have been exposed to Aflatoxin from Midwestern Petfood brands. What a nightmare!

I am getting the same feeling. I read that book in HS ages ago. Totally disgusting what went on in the meat industry back in those times. There needs to be more oversight and regulation to prevent having to have contaminated food on the market. Also, we need more "muckrakers" to report shoddy practices in the food industry. We got to hold these companies accountable or things will get worse.🙁

Vitakraft Sun Seed Recall of Vitakraft Vita Smart Hedgehog Food Due to Possible Salmonella Health Risk

When a company announces a recall, market withdrawal, or safety alert, the FDA posts the company's announcement as a public service. FDA does not endorse either the product or the company.

Summary

Company Announcement Date: February 25, 2021

FDA Publish Date: March 01, 2021

Product Type: Animal & Veterinary

Reason for Announcement: Potential to be contaminated with Salmonella

Company Name: Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc.

Brand Name: Vitakraft

Product Description: Vita Smart Hedgehog Food

Company Announcement

Vitakraft Sun Seed Inc. of Weston, OH, is voluntarily recalling one lot of Vitakraft Vita Smart Hedgehog Food because it has the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella. Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and there is risk to humans from handling contaminated pet products, especially if they have not thoroughly washed their hands after having contact with the products or any surfaces exposed to these products.

Vitakraft Sun Seed was notified on February 19, 2021, by the Michigan Department of Agriculture that Salmonella was detected in an inspection sample of product from Lot Number 343422. The tests which discovered the bacteria were part of random testing performed by the State of Michigan on consumer products, and not prompted by any consumer concerns. To date there have been no reports of illness.

Update on the Hill's science diet recall due to excessive Vit D

Settlement in the Hill’s vit D recall==
after discussing the settlement, which may disturb some, the article by Susan Thixton includes the instructions of How to object to the settlement. which is not easy

Way down on the frequently asked questions page it states that pet owners who “Object to the Settlement” are forced to stay in the lawsuit. “You cannot both exclude yourself from the Settlement and object at the same time. If you exclude yourself, you cannot object to any part of the Settlement. You have to remain in the Settlement Class in order to maintain your right to object to any part of the Settlement.“

Making matters worse, to object to this settlement pet owners have to send a signed letter not only to the Court but also to eight different attorneys.

I hadn't realized there were two companies who both make raw pet food with similar names. In case there is any confusion about the Bravo recall
Dave at Petful offers this clarification -

Bravo Packing, Inc. might sound really familiar to you, but we want to proactively clear up some possible confusion.

Don’t confuse this company with Bravo LLC, which also makes raw pet food but under the Bravo! brand line. That is a completely separate company that is not in any way affected by this recall. The last time that company had any recalls was way back in 2015.

Also, the product name “Performance Dog” might confuse a few readers, too. That’s because there’s another dog food brand called Raw Performance Dog Food — which, again, is not being recalled. That one is based in Canada. (Yes, all these similar-looking names can get very confusing.)

  • Zuke’s Mini Naturals Chicken Recipe, 6 oz. and 16 oz., SKU 013423330517 and 013423330210
  • Zuke’s Mini Naturals Chicken Recipe, 0.5 oz. sample size, no SKU number
  • Zuke’s Mini Naturals Peanut Butter & Oats Recipe, 6 oz. and 16 oz., SKU 013423330524 and 013423330227
  • Zuke’s Mini Naturals Duck Recipe, 6 oz. and 16 oz., SKU 613423330533 and 613423330236

  • Zuke’s Mini Naturals Beef Recipe, 6 oz. and 16 oz., SKU 613423330588 and 613423330601

LoriLind later tweeted that “This is not just a bad batch. There are hundreds of dogs who have been sickened.” She referenced reviews on Zuke’s store on Amazon, which she said “has hundreds of complaints about all the different flavors.”

Sure enough, some of the reviews of Zuke’s Mini Naturals on Amazon tell a story of a possibly much bigger problem than Zuke’s is letting on about.

Review from Amazon ::
I should have listened to the 1-star reviews but since most people gave high ratings I felt confident and decided to purchase these treats. The person who found sharp objects inside was correct, I also found many tiny, hard, sharp, plastic-like objects inside each treat so I had to throw them out immediately. I wish someone could tell me what they are. I didn't want to risk it with my 3 dogs.
