Woke up at 2 or so with thoughts in my head about Jezabel, my sweet cat who died last month) She was 22 years old (ask me about why I think she lived so long...I think its because I personally made her food... I do NOT trust the pet food industry at ALL. If your guys want the recipe its pretty easy to make and freeze ) I've been waking up around 2 or 3 am every morning with memories of her. I am collecting them and have started writing about her. I imagine I am ready to write her story, though I will do it slowly. They are happy memories, though I imagine writing about the end is going to be excruciating.

OWNED BY A CAT
(ODE TO JEZABEL)
Young kitten
So soft, so sweet
Mewing and kneading
Your soft little paw in my hand
Begging for food
Kneading love

Strong cat
walking, stalking as you do
Invisible tiger in the grass
"You don’t see me"
But I do

Sitting in the sun as if you own it
Sharpening claws on trees as if you own them
Sharpening claws on me.

I
I am smitten,
Owned by a cat
Whose “eye kisses” make my day
Just a little more sweet.

The blanket is not mine
My legs are not mine
She sleeps between them
And insists on hogging the bed
Until the bed is not mine.

I am in love with a creature
Who wakes me with hairballs
Running around the house at night
Attacker of toilet paper rolls and socks

A tiny dragon slaying mice
Who pounces on spiders
And pulls birds from the sky
To lay them at my feet

And now she lies in my arms
She who was so majestic
And hilarious
And still loved
"Help me" in her eyes
Hardly breathing, frail, and begging for relief
Her soft little paw in my hand

I will release her

Though it will haunt me all my life

A touching tribute to your loving and loved cat. It's not easy I know but she had a long and happy life. It's a shame that their life span is not as long as ours. Sweet dreams Jezabel and say hello to Lucy, Bomber and Poppy for me.

A few more lines as she was quite like a queen... (I don't know why it wouldn't let me edit the other one...)

Just beautiful. Jezabel was the Queen of your home and the keeper of your heart. May she reign at the Bridge in all her glory, may your pain subside to beautiful memories. She will always be with you in spirit, for love never dies.

Brings a tear to my eye. I have a 16 year old queen and wonder how long she will be with us. Some days she runs a bit and others she lays on her throne and surveys the younger miscreants. Your Jezebel chose well when she chose you to feed and love her.

These beautiful tributs to and deep love for Jezabel have touched my heart and drove me somewhat pensive. Jezabel lived to be 22, my Cucumella will be 15 shortly. My concern is she will probably outlive me. She is a very affectionate cat needing my permanent attention and presence. She is always with me, follows me where ever I go or do. When I am busy at my desk or with the computer she lies on top of my desk, when I eat she sits on a chair by my side, when I cook she stands by me or lies on the floor next to me. Even when I water my interior plants (I have over 50) she follows me as I
wallk up and down refilling the watering can. When I sit down she will be on my lap and of course she sleeps with me. When I go out she follows me to the front door and it doesn't mind how long I am absent I find her waiting for me behind the door when I come back.

Thank you Idleheid. May I then ALSO live many years yet, my concern is not to leave her when I 'll no longer be here.
Yes ABSOLUTELY... may you live a long long time so you and your baby can be together. I have a friend who had a dog who felt exactly like you do and I worried for her too. I wish you and your sweetie many MANY long years together...
