Hi All, I live in Central Florida have a colony of 4 ferals that are a family. They all have been fixed. Suddenly they have no shelter because my neighbor decided to shut them out of her enclosure porch which was so nice for them. I help feed them, but have no shelter. Has anyone got ideas on shelters you'd recommend from any website, since we don't have much cold, they don't have a lot of warmth, just stay out of rain. Many thanks for your ideas. Marilyn

An old picnick table turned on its side and covered with a tarp?

I get mine on Amazon, there are many available at all different costs. You would have to get one big enough or two to accompany 4. Just look for heated outdoor cat shelters. you would need an outdoor extension cord, and wrap the connection in waterproof tape. They are very inexpensive to run, and though the initial price seems a little high, they last for many years. some of the heat pads I have are ten years old and still working! If you can't afford a shelter, a home built box with relective nonelectric heat pads work well, they reflect the cat's body heat back.

Old igloo coolers can serve as shelters with straw inside ( not hay and no blankets) the large ones can be insulated some more on the inside with foam board, hole cut for entrance, and weighted down, they make good shelters!

I spend a lot of time in Central Florida and as you said, you don't need to worry about or spend money on heated areas to protect them from cold. With 4 cats snuggled together, they will have no problem with the very mild winter temperatures. Rain is the big problem. Amazon has many shelters for sale that offer rain protection. I like the igloo shaped houses. If it is designed for a cat the entrance will be much smaller in diameter than a dog shelter. Position it carefully to try to block blowing rain. Don't be discouraged if they don't use it right away. Sometimes it will take months for skeptical cats to try a new item. Good luck!
