My outside and/or feral cats have access to the garage which we heat in the winter. I have several litter boxes out there for them which they all use except this 5 month old kitten. He refuses to use it. He goes outside of the litter box. He sees the other cats using the litter box. I don't know what to do to get him to use the litter box. I was thinking about bring him inside as he is quite tame and gets along with other cats but I'm not going to bring him in if he won't use the litter box. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

It could be the type of litter, or the type of box, or he just does not want to share a box. Play around with this a bit, you may hit on the right combination! OH...and don't overlook putting just plain dirt in his box to start with, then gradually mixing that with litter, IF he uses the dirt box!

Try different types of litter...some cats are just fussy that way.
I don't think it's the litter. When one of the other cats kicks out litter on the garage floor he'll go in that.

Would he step into a very low sided box or a box with one missing side and the litter in the back? You might need something like a storage type box to try that. I have had cats born outside or who lived outside for a long time not use boxes and/or litter. One would use a box with a pee pad in it, but not litter. I wonder if it is just an idiosyncrasy of seeing litter on the floor and using it as it is one less step to be able to pee.
