Does anyone else have that ONE CAT who hates everything and everyone? Mine is named Hazel and I honestly worry about her well-being. A cat who is constantly hissing and growling can't be happy, right? She had a pretty standard temperament for a kitten, but with age she's gotten grumpier for no apparent reason. All of my other cats are extremely sweet and vy for my attention, but she just usually doesn't care for it. Does anyone else have a car like this? Do you have any advice? Do you think this cat is still happy?

My first question would be whether health issues have been ruled out. Could she be growling because of illness or pain?
She hasn't been to the vet recently, so I suppose that's a possibility. She mainly growls at other cats when they get too close to her, I'm not sure if that could point to any health issues. She doesn't show any signs of pain or illness outside of possibly the growling and hissing. That is definitely something to look into, thank you for your reply!

My first thought was also health issues. How's life in the litter box? Have you noticed anything amiss... like chronically soft stools, etc? I had a cat with bad GI issues and that made him unhappy a lot - like us, he was constantly uncomfortable. Also, my Jack has really bad skin allergies. We give him depo-medrol shots every two months and I can always tell when he starts needing his shot. Not only does he starting scratching a lot, he stops enjoying being pet and has less tolerance for his buddies. Lastly, Rose was dropped at a shelter when she was about 4 months old, with a huge burn/wound on her upper back/neck. No one knows what happened; flea med gone wrong? burned hiding in a car engine?) She became a foster fail. She hates being touched. Well, doesn't hate it but it's not her favorite thing. And who can blame her? She spent formative months in bandages and pain. I also think she has some nerve damage which makes the petting feel weird.
So do get that check-up. And while you're there, take advantage of your vet as a behavior specialist... ask him/her what they think could be causing the behavioral issues if it's not health related. Maybe kitty could use some anti-anxiety meds?
