My cat Frankie scratched my other cat Scruffles last night and got his eye. He is doing fine minus a visible scratch on the eye and some minor discharge/him squinting and keeping the eye mostly shut.
Wondering if this has happened to anyone before and looking for any advice on what we can do for him today since no vets are open due to the holiday? Can you rinse with saline to clean?

Yes, saline should be safe. If there is a drugstore around, you might ask the pharmacist about eye drops that could help and are safe for cats. I use Systane drops, which really soothe the eye. They are probably safe for cats, but ask. Then tomorrow, take him to the vet. You don't want to risk an infection or loss of sight.

Scruffles is gorgeous, BTW.

Thank you! We took him to the animal hospital and they gave him some eye drops but they couldn’t explain what was wrong with his eye. She said scratches tend to be indented whereas scruffs is protruding outwards, so we’re taking him to an eye specialist.

That little white/clear flap looks a lot like what happened when Stevie lacerated Gizmo's third eyelid. I had a made a post on here when it happened. Giz was able to keep his eye mostly opened, although a bit squinty, but the vet ended up having to cut away that flap so it wouldn't heal by adhering to his cornea. Although I'm sure if that was the case for your kitty, the vet would've obviously come to that conclusion. Good luck with the eye specialist! Keep us posted.

Looks like Scruffs will not need surgery, the cut only went into one of the three layers of the eye and should heal on it's own with the help of stronger drops from kitty eye dr. (he felt the ones the hospital gave us were too weak) he also gave us 3 pain pills to help him deal with possible pain he may be having. His appetite seems to have improved, got him to eat his pain med with wet food & even managed to get an eye drop in without the help of the fiance (go me!) We will put 4 drops into his eye every day until it gets better. He said if it doesn't go away he could trim it off to assist in healing and overall comfort. Thank goodness for kitty eye doctors!

Happy to report the bubble in Scruffs eye has gone down significantly due to drops. Fingers crossed it goes away completely!
