Odd Spots on Belly

Hey folks,
I just noticed these two odd areas on one of my cats belly. It kind of reminds me of the acne he gets on his tail. It’s odd to see it on his belly though. Has anyone seen something like this before? I tried wiping it off with a wet paper towel, but that didn’t do anything aside from making the area wet. There wasn't a different colored tinge on the paper towel either, so it's not flea dirt.

Hi. If the stuff he gets on his tail is truly acne, I would guess this is too since it looks similar to you. Any clue what the tail acne was caused by? It is probably from the same thing, and has now spread to his belly. Likely some sort of an allergy.

I wish I knew what caused his stud tail. I dont remember him having it prior to being neutered and he didn't always have it after being neutered. I noticed it for the first time back in 2019, as he suddenly had a white streak on the top of his otherwise brown tail. The base of the white streak is greasy and when looking at the skin it has light brownish areas with dark specs on it. He used to get chin acne years ago back before chicken was removed from his diet. His plate is glass and his water bowls are stainless steel and ceramic. The litter boxes are stainless steel as well.

I've had vets look at his tail over the years, but none of them have thought it was an issue. Touching the area with the acne bothers him though, as he always tries to move away. But yeah, I dont know what's caused his stud tail. I've read its an over production of oils in the skin, but not what causes that to happen in the first place.

Rikki got stud tail after he was neutered. He is an indoor only cat and while he was a rescue, he was not a feral. Without interrupting everything with his story, I don't think that he was on the street at all. Not a clue why he got it. Greasy, brownish, fur coming off. At the same time, he had his first bladder issue and the vet gave him Convenia. He reacted to it, which is another story, and I won't allow it for him again, but it literally cured the stud tail as I watched.

Wow, how did Covena treat his stud tail? I’ve heard so many stories on here about the horrible effects of that drug that I refuse to have it given to my cats. But it’s strange that it cured Rikki’s stud tail as an antibiotic. Did the vet say anything about that?

Convenia is used for skin infections. However, Rikki spent the day after at the vet's receiving supportive care as he seemingly collapsed after the injection, so definitely not something that I would do again. I asked the vet about the tail, but did not get a specific response. At that point though I was pretty upset about the Convenia and had filed an adverse reaction report with Zoetis, so that probably ended the discussion.
