Hello, i have some experience with caring for ophraned newborn kittens, but this is the first one that poops on its own. I find him covered in poop between feedings. He is 4 days old, gained 20g since i got him two days ago.. im just worried if its something normal or i have to seek help from a vet

Hi and welcome to TCS. Sorry none of our members who work with kittens have responded yet - but, I am sure they will soon!!

Is his poop of normal consistency and color? Does he pee OK? It may be possible that he is intolerant to something in the formula you are using. How is his overall weight? Having very little experience, 20g over 2 days might be a bit low, but the constant pooping could be slowing his gains down a bit.

If your vet has experience with kittens, it might behoove to you let them know what's going on and see what they say, and keep him cleaned up in the meantime. Any insight you could get from this website while you wait for other members to come along?

Thank you for the reply
We got him at 74g and this morning he was 94g.
I've been using the same formula as with my two other fosters this month. All three have yellow poop, his has been a bit runny at first (probably due to having been fed cow's milk at first by the kid who found him) and now it's normal.
Our vet said there's little to be made because he's too little

Maybe now that he is being fed properly he will stop pooping so much. :crossfingers::crossfingers::crossfingers::crossfingers:

20 grams over 2 days is excellent. It also sounds like his body is adjusting to his formula, but kittens poop a lot and sometimes do go on their own. He sounds very heathy and like a little fighter! Do keep him cleaned up so he doesn’t get urine or poop burns.
