Okay! I said I would make a new introductory post since when I first joined TCS back in 2011 I only had one kitty and now I have 7 living in my home!
First off, my name is Yvonne. I am 32 and I live in Iowa. I have an 8 year old daughter and I am married. I am a before/after school program teacher. I mostly spend all my time at home with my kitties!
On to the important stuff.. the cats!
Phaedra -11 year old female
She is the reason I made this account. She is our antisocial kitty and has a whole bedroom to herself equipped with a couch, cat tree, window bed, a hidey spot, and a tv! She is so very sweet but doesn't get along with the other kitties. We stack two baby gates in her doorway so it is never closed up and she can still see out. She just recently had surgery back in September to remove a claw that was torn, but she is doing great. She's a small girl at only 7-8lbs.
Leo -8 year old male
Leo is our very spicy ginger boy. He used to weigh nearly 25 lbs and is now down to 16. He was diagnosed with diabetes at the beginning of August this year so is given insulin 2x/day and periodic blood sugar checks, which he does not care for. He is also the cutest sleeper. Although he is spicy, he does come up for cuddles often, but you have to watch out because sometimes out of nowhere he is done and you might get swiped at! Since he was switched to an all wet food diet he now has the softest fur.
Aria -6 year old female
We found Aria outside as a very sick stray kitten. Little did we know, we thought she just had a URI but it turned out to be a cuterebra in her nose! She now has some nasal issues since it ate away part of the inside of her nostril, but that just entails a ton of snot being shot out at once- it's pretty gross. She is shy around the others in the house but I am her person and she cuddles up with me. She is also missing a little notch in her ear where it had scabbed and fell off when she was a baby. She is quiet until she wants food! She is very camera shy and will often turn away when she sees the phone pointed at her. She let's me pick her up for a little bit and will lay her head on my shoulder. She is also around 16lb.
Luna -3 year old female
We adopted Luna from the farm where my daughter went to preschool at, the owner was working on TNR but had some kittens and we brought her home. Shortly after we brought her home the rest of her litter went missing. We feel grateful that we were able to save her. She was a very spicy kitten and would attack our faces and feet at night while we were sleeping. She has since mellowed out and is a very chill and sweet kitty. She's also our puker if she eats too fast. She is Murphy's best friend (we'll meet Murphy next). She isn't much of a lap cat but will come lay on you for about 3-5 minutes then leave. She's around 9lbs.
Murphy -4 month old female
Here is Murphy! She's our spastic little ball of fun! She is a shoulder cat and extremely talkative. She flies around the house at all hours and wrestles with Luna all day long. She currently has a skin condition that we are trying to figure out- she gets scabs around her neck that go away and then come back. I am suspecting possible food allergies but not quite sure yet. We adopted her from one of our vet techs who was fostering her. She's a bit of a picky eater but goes absolutely insane for the churu and temptations squeeze ups.
Inara -Our Forever 10 Year Old Female
Inara was my husband's kitty that he had before I met him. He rescued her from a cat hoarder. He initially went to get a different cat but when he opened the carrier she crawled out from the ceiling and ran into it, so he took her. After he left he called the animal shelter to report the situation (there were cats everywhere). She ended up being pregnant at just around 6 months old and had a litter, losing one kitten. We got together shortly after she had the kittens. His roommate moved out and took them and we kept her. I had her spayed after. She was the most amazing and sweet cat ever. She would come up to you and pet you to let you know she wanted pets. She was my husband's heart cat, they were very bonded. She barely ever made a peep except for some random meows here and there. She wasn't ever a healthy cat, being very inbred, so we were lucky to get 10 years with her. We made the very hard decision in September of this year to let her go as she got severely ill and stopped eating/drinking and was hiding and dropped down to 3lbs, where she was only ever 6-7lb at the most. We miss her so much.
The Siblings Sam& Clara -7 months old
These two whose unofficial (or maybe officially now lol) names are Sam & Clara. Clara (the gray) came up to me one night after I got home from work and I brought her inside as it was supposed to start dropping down in temperatures. My daughter said she had seen them outside earlier and there should be a black kitty with her. I went back outside and heard my neighbor shooing something away and I asked if it was a cat and it was, and there he was! They were now both in my tiny bathroom! Lol. I immediately put up a post for them on Facebook& Nextdoor. Called the animal shelter and had them checked for a microchip. So far no one has claimed these sweeties. I put up a fundraiser to help get them spayed/neutered and vaccinated and was successful, they were both fixed last week (On Tuesday and Thursday). They are estimated to be around 7 months old and siblings. They are very bonded to each other. The girl Clara reminds my husband so much of Inara and he is starting to bond with her. Right now they are living in my daughters bedroom but will be able to be integrated with the others soon. Sam (black) has an issue with a salivary gland being blocked so will have to visit the vet soon to have it checked out. Clara is around 6lbs and Sam is around 7lbs.
