My deepest regrets on the passing of your boy.
I agree with otto that you might want to consider a name that does not sound like Ally or Ollie.  But if you are set on ending in a "y" sound, how about Rudy?

Aw look at the little cutie! I posted in the RB thread, but just wanted to pop in again to say I'm so sorry. :hugs:

Reading through the thread, this did strike me...

PS that being said, to avoid confusing Ally, you may want to find a name that does not sound so much like Ally OR Ollie. The little guy will let you know what his name is, if you give him a chance to tell you. :) :heart3:
And that being said, as he's a red boy, I love the suggestion for "Rudy," for what it's worth LOL. Every Rudy I've ever known has been really sweet.

I do hope you'll find time to let us know what name he/you chose!

I am very sorry to hear about your losing Ollie so suddenly and so young.

Your new little guy is a cutie! I hope he and Ally will become friends really soon. I think Andy would be a nice fit, Ally and Andy. However, as posted above,I suppose he'll let you know what his name really is.

"Tully" is a cutie, no doubt about it.  Aren't you looking forward to the whole kitten thing, again?

Honestly, not really.  I'd do anything to just have Ollie back.  I already love this new cat, but the kitten thing is exhausting.  I adopted a kitten thinking that Ally would perceive a kitten as less of a threat than a grown cat, but so far she's been hissing at him if he gets closer than say, 2 feet from her.  She's getting better, originally she hissed from 10 feet, and it's only been 2 days of introductions.  He on the other hand, is eager to be her friend.  She's just resisting right now.  She just lost her best friend and now this new cat wants to get to know her.  So, I get it if it's just too much for her to handle.  The up side is I've seen no behavior from her to suggest she'd go beyond hissing and a little growling.  She's never had any violent tendencies, but I still wanted to play it safe.

Yeah, usually with my big ones, after a while they decide that the kitten is OK, a great little toy, like a mouse that fights back.  And, for at least two of mine (males, strangely enough), the kitten seems to trigger the mothering thing.

Are the names Ally and Alfie too similar?

I kind of like Alfie, and it seems to suit him.  I worry it's too similar.  Ally could always tell the difference between Ally and Ollie - I know that.  Ollie wasn't as good at it, but I could have called him "Catinator 5000" and he would have come over to me, so he pretty much responded to anything I'd say if he thought it was meant for him.

This new cat listens, and seems pretty smart.  I don't know how good his ear for human-speak will be as he grows up though.

I'm still searching for names.  Naming this cat is more difficult because some names like Ozzy make me think of Ollie and then make me sad, plus I feel like if Ollie is watching he might feel like it's an attempt to replace him (I know how ridiculous that may sound).

I've looked at a lot of names.  I also liked Cody, and Toby.  He seems like an Alfie though.  I don't know why.  It's an odd feeling considering I've never known an Alfie.  His shelter name was Fred though, so Fred -> Alfred -> Alfie also works.

As soon someone suggested Alfie, it felt like that should be his name.
His formal name could be Alfred...
his nick-name Alfie.
How exciting, I think that you are close to choosing. :cross:

Just awww........... :hugs: :hugs: :hugs:

Bear in mind, you can change the name. When we rescued Chumley, his hame then was Charlie. When we brought him inside, and integrated him with the crew, it became clear that the name was too similar to Shelly. Not to our ears, but... :dk: We changed his name to Chumley after a month or two, and he caught on right quick. (And this name REALLY suits him!).

So IF it came to it, his name could always be changed to Ralph/Ralphie, or I'm sure there are other similar-sounding names that alter how it sounds enough if need be. :heart3:

What a cutie !! I'm glad Ally is going to have a feline companion
As for names... hmmm... You could name him Dark, as in Dark Ally. Another combo that comes immediately to mind is Oop. Ally Oop ;)  Enjoy your new baby. I know he's got a great home with you.

Thanks.  For the moment, I've decided to call him Alfie.  That could change though.

Going wayyyy back (board membership-wise), Ally was originally called Socks.  She doesn't have any, but the idea was that my dog, Ribsy, was named after a Beverly Cleary novel character (dog), so at the time I wanted to name her after another character - this time a cat.  I had to change it though, because everybody who met her kept asking, "So I don't get it, she doesn't have any socks?"  So I figured Ally suited her better.

A photo of Ribsy and Socks while they still were Ribsy and Socks

Ribsy looks bad in that photo because he was starting to get old at that point.  He was about 16/17 then.  He made it to 19, but his quality of life had deteriorated due to age related issues that my family and I agreed that he was suffering more than enjoying life, so we euthanized him.  That was part of what made Ollie's death so horrible for me.  2 beloved pets were necessarily euthanized in only a few months plus Ollie was so young, and sweet as I could have ever asked for.

I already love Alfie.  Ally's finally coming around.  She's at the "I don't want to kill you, but I don't want to be around you either." stage.  Hopefully after this will come, "Ok, we can be friends, but I get dibs on the cat beds." and then "I love you new cat." <- pretty much how it went down the last time with Ally and Ollie as I remember it.

I'm very sorry to hear of the loss of Ollie. I remember when you got him. :(

A good name for the new little guy...maybe Bailey?
