Hi.

I've been to the vet today because Anís had peed herself and was a bit too lethargic, even considering the insanely hot temperature.

Turns out she has a spleen tumor.
Surgery would probably kill her as well due to anesthesia or surgery itself.

I am so heartbroken and so angry.
After all this time and all the big steps She did to become part of the family. It's so unfair.

Anís has a couple of weeks at most.

Oh dear! I am so sorry to hear this! It isn't fair in any way (life!) but I am glad she will have a home and someone to care for her for whatever time she does have. She won't have to pass in a shelter. So heartbreaking...

Anís is gone.
Yesterday after the her visit she suffered a seizure, a long one, and even after she was totally exhausted and had difficulties breathing.

So we hurried back to the vet. Her heart was so weak that to feel its beating was no easy task.

There was no choice but gentle sleep. Today we buried her.

I feel devastated. I keep thinking like "oh I need to close that door, she's resting" or "let's feed the three" then I remember.

So sorry for your loss.

Thank you for taking care of her and giving her a home for her last while. When she passed, she knew your love and knew how to make new friends.

Her behaviour does make a lot more sense now...knowing that she had a health issue causing her discomfort and making her extra nervous around your boys.

I don't know since when the tumor was there.
There was no sign of it until these last days. Her blood test was ok.
The vet inspected her abdomen no more than a month and half ago and it seemed fine.

Perhaps it had been hiding there the whole time, without showing symptoms. After the cure for arthritis her behavior had gotten better and better.

At the beginning of August she had started moving through the house on her own. She did seem active for another week at least. She and the boys had managed to go nose to nose.

However recently she had become a bit lethargic and had lost some weight, but here it is insanely hot and almost all cats are very little active and prefer relaxing in fresh places.
She did, in the last days, come beside me and start purring. In retrospective, I am sure she was purring to deal with the first real lashes of pain.

I did not even remotely imagine such a scenario at the time. I feel guilty for not getting alarmed at her weight loss and keep on wondering if she could have undergone surgery had I taken her to the vet a week earlier. Perhaps not. Probably not. Guilt Is still there.

I am telling you all how the tumor progressed hoping that some of you is perhaps able to save the next unlucky kitty, calling the vet a bit earlier.

And yes I am in a bit of a shock and afraid of the time my boys will die as well, or that they might one day harbor such a monstrous illness inside them without me noticing at all. Again.
