I neutered a stray on Monday and I’m keeping him on my patio for recovery. Of course he is going stir crazy. I can handle him and pacify him, but the constant meowing I thought would go away with neutering hasn’t. I already have a full house and can’t take him in full time. I’ve chipped him and because he has bonded with me pretty nicely I don’t expect him to go far. When is it safe to let them out after a neuter? Nothing looks swollen or complicated down there. He is still holding his tail down so it still hurts.

He should be fine by now. I usually keep them in no more than overnight when I TNR. His downed tail may be from being overstressed about confinement. Bless you for caring for him!

I release after an overnight in the trap. Males recover very quickly. Also it takes anywhere from 3-6 weeks for hormones to settle. He may still wander, look for a mate and yowl during that time period.

I have a blind cat at home he harasses. I live in a gated community away from any busy streets, so I will probably let him out during the day and bring him in at night. I’d probably keep him in but for my blind elderly kitty. I can’t leave them alone.
