We got our boy neutered today and he completely and utterly FREAKS out with the soft collar on. He was leaping all over the house so i took it off cos i thought he'd damage himself jumping like that. He licks the wound a bit though. What can i do to stop him?

As long as he doesn't go wild and injure himself with too much licking/chewing, he doesn't need a cone. I've never even once used a cone on a male cat. Just keep an eye on him at first to make sure he isn't going to hurt himself, but, really, even if he pulls the stitches there's not a whole lot that can go wrong with a neuter. (Infection is the main thing to watch for, so keep an eye out for excessive redness or swelling, or pus discharge.)

Simply agreeing with W Willowy . Take the cone off, and just keep an eye on him. He'll do more damage going nuts like that then he would licking occasionally and briefly.
